    mother hen abandoned chick!!! HELP!!!

Well, the headline pretty much says it: These past months, one of my hens decided to be broody. One of four eggs ended up hatching (we didn't candle them) and she began raising her! But just this past week, I have now found 2 eggs left in the place her and the chick were staying. I was told that...

So right now I have a mama named Dorthy ann who is raising one baby chick. The chick is about 3 weeks old. When should I reintroduce mama and interduce the chick? and also, today I found an egg in the place that they are staying. Should this be a concern? It would be great if you could answer...

This afternoon I have my first baby chick. Yes, just one. We started with five eggs but 3 broke and two got lost and thrown out. She already has some fluff on her but I'd say she was probably born this morning. Out of the two broody hens I have, the black austrolorp is the one who had the chick...

    weird squawk and behind issues

Recently I've been noticing that one of my chickens named Popsicle has been making a weird squawk. She can't even or doesn't make the regular hen noises that anyone with hens would hear. Today I decided to separate her from the flock and take a closer look. After putting where I put my...

Now I raise a new question: where do you guys put the baby chicks and broody hen? What do you build for them? I’m trying to come up with something on the internet on what I should build for my broody hen once the eggs hatch but nothing really seems to work. I was hoping to put it along side the...

    After the hatching questions

so I did have chicks last year however it had been my first time and had not thought of winter coming up. Therefore my chicks had never had time to learn to”flock” when I let my chickens free range during the day. The two hens have finally caught on now but still have trouble staying with the...

Quick question. I don’t remember how long does it usually take for a broody hen to sit and hatch eggs. Also last time I did this with Gertude, she sat on about 12 eggs and only 4 made it. How many do you guys suggest I let May sit on. Right now she has 5 but I didn’t know if I should let her...

Weirdest thing happened today... Broody hen!

I finally have a broody chicken! This is her third day sitting in the coop all day. She nips and makes weird noises when you go to try and touch her. My question is if I should worry about when the chicks hatch, if the rooster will hurt the chicks. And is it okay to just leave the chicken alone...
