Is it possible for only one chicken to have scaly leg mites?

I have a flock of 9 ,only one of which is a black silkie. She doesn't roost with the other girls even when she isn't broody. She used to buddy up with a too but he died a couple of months ago. She looks like she as raised scales with white crusty stuff underneath. I will post pics tomorrow. My...

    Is Brooding Contagious?

I have 9 hens. One of them went broody at least 2 months ago, she is a cochin. She still is even though she isn't sitting on any eggs. One week after she went broody we noticed another of the girls doing the same. Approximately 2 weeks after that a third girl went broody. Next my silkie girl...

I think I have a Silkie Rooster, do You?

Hello. I am very new to the chicken scene and am finding my Silkies to be so much more fun and complicated than I thought. I have a Black Silkie Pullet and what I was told was a partridge chick. It did have the chipmunk coloring. I go it on August 30 and was also told it was a week old. If that...

Some advice on a head wound on a cochin chick. Just happened.

I have a chick that was pecked on its head down to its skull. It is smaller than a dime and isn't bleeding but it looks bad. I was hoping someone could give me a little advice on how to handle it. I have some Rooster Booster to stop picking but I'm not sure about putting it on a raw wound. Thanks.

    Shrimp tails?

What do you think about feeding shrimp tails and shells to the chickens and how would you process them? I have been giving the "shells" and tails to mine. I rinse them after I clean the shrimp. I thought if they could eat raw meat and other leftovers, shrimp leavings might be okay. I usually...

Yet another pullet or roo? post.

OK, I've held out as long as I can. I got this black silkie on the 31st of August. I dont know how old it is. The only real changes to date have been the blue ears peeking through and she has nearly doubled in size. The breeder and I chose her because she seemed more like a hen than a rooster...

    One Chick Left

I got three silkie chicks this week from a local breeder. The runty one is now the only one left she had a pasty but so I paid lots of attention to her. The other two were just fine, I made sure their butts were clean. Over the last two days they got weak and died early this morning. Now the...

I can't tell what she is. Any ideas?

This is a chick I got from a local feed store. She (I hope) has feathered legs. I'm a newbie when it comes to chickens so I have no idea what she could be. I was told at the store they thought she was a red sex link but I have a sex link and they are very different in coloring. Dang! I forgot...
