So, I hear that tylosin is now prescription only, and I have a respiratory infection going through my flock like dominos. Ideally I'd like to just treat the drinking water, and I think they'd prefer that to IM injections as well. What alternatives are there?
Thanks in advance.
Hi all.
My old rooster Brutus is bleeding from his right ear. He's about 7ish years old, and lost his right eye in a fight over a year ago. I had noticed the ear looking inflamed this past week, but no other symptoms. He had been hanging by himself the past few days, but he's also an old guy...
Hi all. My neighbor found a chicken, and the top mandible of the beak appears to be completely gone. Chicken seems otherwise fine. Any idea if the beak will grow back? Any other advice?
Hi all.
I have a small flock of chickens (10-ish, plus chicks) on a standard city lot in an urban area. I was thinking of getting guinea keets for my two broody ladies to raise. Minimum order from the hatcheries is 15. I plan to keep a few, and rehome most.
I need your advice about whether...
Hi all.
I have a mixed flock of chickens, which includes a broody hen and her 4 week old chicks. Someone in the flock has roundworm, so I need to treat everyone. My questions:
Is it ok to treat the water with safeguard, since the little chicks will be drinking it?
If not, what is the dosage...
Hi all!
I’m planning on building a new run for the coop, and would like some input. Current run is 8’x5’, and the new run will be 12’x6’. With the avian flu in state, I’m planning on starting this sooner than later.
The coop and run currently:
My original idea was to do a cattle panel...
Hi all.
I manage a flock of twelve chickens at a local school, and over the past weekend their feeder got smeared with blood (the weekend person sent me the pic). I've not seen anything like this before. It's gotten cold here, down in the 20's here and there. I do not see any visible...
I have some broody silkies sitting on a clutch of eggs. No idea when they started. I checked in the eggs today and head chirping in one. Does that mean it has internally pipped? How long until it is ready to hatch?
My local TSC does not have any barley. Where else can I look? Is there another grain that I can use?
I got some wheat from the health food store, but that is too pricy to use regularly.
Thanks in advance!
Hi friends.
One of my silkies decided to sit on a couple eggs. Did she not realize that it is a bit cold out? Was the snow not a good indicator that she should wait a while?
Anyways, do to 2020 being, well, tough, I am divorcing and not at the house while we work out details. My plan is to...
My Buckeye Rexi has some sort of eye infection.
I have had two different medicines recommended to me (not by a vet, by chicken people). One is Liquamycin LA-200, which is an injectable given twice, dosed three days apart. The other is Terramycin, an eye ointment applied multiple times a day...
One of my hens is keeping her right eye shut. When she does open it, nothing looks wrong. She’s acting unhappy, but otherwise nothing amiss. Any ideas? Best treatment?
How do I treat scaly leg mites on feathered feet?
The kids just showed me the feet of our bantam cochin. Yikes!! Need treatment ASAP. Those feathers hide a lot.
My 8 year old daughter is interested in learning more about pigeons. Do you have any books you would recommend for her to learn more about keeping pigeons?
I have a four month old cockerel, he’s a satin feathered silkie/polish mix. A few days ago he found his voice and it’s a totally reasonable crow, not too loud and not an annoying pitch. The same day he decided to spend the afternoon attempting to mount all the pullets, who are not laying yet...
I’m ordering a couple chicks for my little broody Cochin to raise. They will be shipped to my local chicken store, and I will pick them up the day they arrive. Is there anything special I need to know? I am not concerned about the broody accepting them, she’d raise a gold ball if it chirped. My...
My bantam black Cochin Sunflower is broody again. Love the little lady, but holy moly! I have no desire to lock her in a cage for a couple days. She is currently keeping a couple fake eggs nice and toasty. I was planning on getting her some fertile eggs this spring, but right now is not the...
