My friend has meat birds getting a large hole on the side of their butt and then dying? Like it looks like the skin split open and its insides were coming out but nothing got into the pen. She says this is the second one and another is laying down. Not wanting to walk. Just kind of blah acting...
I'm incubating some eggs for my neighbor. They are from his black sex link hens and Dominique rooster. What traits should they have? Can they be sexed at hatching or will they have different traits?
We're in Calif now and planning to move to Middle TN by Summer of next year. Are there any areas more "chicken friendly" than others. My husband is a city guy so I don't want to force him away from all civilization so I can have my chickens and a goat so I'm looking for an area to meet both our...
My Cornish X (1st group) are just 2days shy of 9wks old. One of the pullets died at 7wks and I had to dispose of her, I was irritated with the time and money (and meal) that I lost. I've been paranoid since then and I check on them several times a day to make sure they're all ok. I processed 2...
I went out to lock everyone up for the night and our 7mo old silkie cockerel was hanging his head and not lifting it at all. He was fine yesterday and last night had his head down when I saw him on his roost. He's been eating and drinking the same, but I didn't notice anything today since I got...
Just processed two of my first group of Cornish X yesterday at 8wks. The smaller of the two cleaned and cut up weighed 5.4lbs minus the tail, feet and skin it was just at 8lbs live weight. Is that average for the breed? I found absolutely no fat on them and they look so much nicer than the birds...
My first time raising meat birds and they're 8wks old, tomorrow I'm going to start with the largest guys that are really having a hard time walking. I weighed a random pick today to see if they were as big as they look and it was 9.4lbs. It was not the biggest one out there. I haven't processed...
I think my "free exotic" from McMurray is a Buff Laced Polish, he/she is 5.5wks old and I need help with gender ID. If it's a cockerel it HAS to go. I already have 3 males and I'm afraid my neighbors are going to have some issues with noise.
7 weeks old and I'm thinking maybe a cochin roo? Comb is orange. He (?) was solid black as a hatchling.
Any thoughts as to what breed/gender? The other two are silkies.
I found this in one of my bearded dragon enclosures. It wasn't there yesterday morning, but my lizards had a dark day due to some urgent family issues and I found it in there today. It had built it's web on the light fixture and was eating crickets. My first thought was to squish it, but...
I had two RIR hens, they never poop in the nest boxes. I acquired two additional hens and the nests are now full of poo. I don't know who's doing it ( I suspect the new ladies) and how do I get them to stop. I mean the nest is full of poo, not just a little dropping or two.
I currently have 2 RIR hens which were given to me in Oct., they had just started laying about 4wks before I got them. I just got 2 more hens (an Australorp and a Buff Orp) yesterday that I'm told are about 1yr old. I was told that they had both been laying but had not laid anything in the past...
