Unfortunately my chicken, Cupcake, died this morning. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/emergency-hen-not-able-to-walk-leg-dislocated.1641700/post-28080814) I'm suspecting Mareks, but I want to do a necropsy to be sure. I'm not sure where to do it though. We don't have many avian vets...
Any suggestions for fencing for my flock? I can't free range due to them wandering into neighbors' yards and predators, but I want to offer some more foraging space for them. And when they're not out in the yard, I'd also like some extra space for my Golden Retriever to run around.
Preferably...
Hey y'all, unfortunately one of my girls, Cupcake, isn't doing so well. Admittedly I have not had much time for the hens with everything that's going on in my personal life, but today I was out with them and I noticed that Cupcake, my Buff Brahma, was lying in the roots of a tree and not moving...
At first I thought my chicken was egg bound, based on some lethargy and holding her tail down. However, after looking further it seems my hen, Cupcake, has mites, as do probably a few other of my hens. I just cleaned out the coop really well yesterday and bought some permethrin (Permectin II...
Hey guys! My cousin just called me.
One of her chickens is limping heavily. She didn't want to eat, not sure about drinking. The hen won't bear any weight on the foot. I asked a few questions, but I don't have a ton of info.
This was first noticed this morning, doesn't look broken or...
So... I'm getting a puppy - this Saturday, January 6th!
I went and visited the breeder last week, and they treated their dogs well, and all were happy, healthy, and friendly.
I played with some of the puppies, and, after explaining what I'm looking for in a dog, they introduced me to a sweet...
This morning I lost Nutmeg, my beautiful buff Silkie. She was my emotional support chicken and comforted me through many tribulations. She was my comfort, my support, my love.
She was there through my tears and my sadness, through my laughter and joy. Nutmeg was a light in the darkest of times...
Happy Thanksgiving to all those celebrating!
Please share what you are thankful for, it can be 1 thing or 50, whatever you want to share! You can include pictures, it can be a bullet list, or however you’d like to share what you are thankful for.
I hope you all have a fantastic day!
So, we treated on of our hens, Sam, for bumblefoot on Friday. We removed the ugly lump and she’s recovering well. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/lethargic-hen-update-potential-bumblefoot-please-help.1599909/)
Today, I was doing a general checkup and deworming each of our other...
Hey everyone, one of my hens, Sam, has been acting lethargic for a few days.
Symptoms:
- standing alone and away from the flock
- moving and walking very slowly
- mostly slowly pecking at the mud rather than water or pellets
- pale and droopy comb
- not going on the roost at night
-...
My Silkie chicken, Nutmeg, got a bit tangled in some thorns. She seemed fine and freed herself, but when I was looking over her to make sure she was ok I noticed some bleeding on her foot. I'm not sure that there's much to be done but thought I would post and ask if there's anything I can do to...
Hey guys! I’m working with animals at a summer camp, and I noticed that one of the sheep (named Oreo) has a large, red inflammation on his upper lip.
I have not had a chance to physically examine it, but I thought I’d check with you guys to see if any of y’all have advice or know what’s going...
I’m curious as to what the reasoning for this is. I know it’s winter (although in Washington the winters are very mild) but since late January, I’ve only been getting 3 eggs a day. This seems off to me.
I have 21 chickens. 2 are roosters and some are on the older side (about 5/6 years) but the...

What rhymes with Halloween? Pumpkins! Or maybe not - but poultry go...
First off, I apologize if this is the wrong area to post this. Please move it if needed :)
Secondly, my question.
Background:
Unfortunately, due to avian influenza, predators, and neighbors, my flock has been unable to free range for a while. Luckily HPAI is no longer a big risk for me...
So… have you lost your wisdom yet?
(As in wisdom teeth, aka 3rd molars)
This thread-discuss anything wisdom tooth related. Or Just tooth related. Share your story, plans, whatever. Have fun!
If you have a graphic picture, give it a spoiler please. Thanks!
I had my wisdom teeth pop up...
So, I’ll try and keep this short.
Basically, eggs got soaked in cleaning solution overnight.
A little bit about what happened:
My family member decided to help out and clean some eggs… she put a bunch in a bucket, added the cleaning solution, and water. That’s how I normally do it.
But...
Hedgehogs - adorable, thorny jellybeans with a wide variety of temperaments, colors, and shapes.
I didn't see a thread dedicated to hedgehogs, so I thought I'd start one!
This is mainly for hedgehog owners, to share pictures, stories, and ask questions about hedgehogs.
Non-hedgehog owners...
A little background:
I got these two fish over 3 years ago. It was an accident (we were ‘gifted’ them)
They’re goldfish.
We added a pleco to eat the algae (he doesn’t like to do that though)
A few days, I noticed one of the fish was acting weird. I’m not the one who takes care of them, and...
