Is this a hen or Roo? I bought it at TSC as a chick with 5 others from the pullet bin. I've never paid any attention or had reason to until it crowed yesterday. I thought maybe a weird hen, but doubting it.
I recently made a post about a broody hen that I finally just gave up and bought some chicks from TSC (they are doing great). I have them in their own separate coop within the larger coop, so all my flock can socialize without fear of injury to babies.
Anyway, I have another hen (Karen...
I have a hen that has been broody for 2 or 3 weeks. She's been stealing eggs to sit on, but I take them everyday. She's determined. So, I broke down and went to TSC and bought some chicks. I swapped the eggs for them. She didn't reject them but, she still won't get off the nest. Is this normal...
I have a Bantam Mille Fleur Roo, Romeo, that began hoping on one leg to get around. He did this for about a week. Now, he won't/can't walk at all. He can't even lay with both legs underneath him and is unbalanced. I could not find any breaks. There is no swelling. Of course, chickens don't...
Does anyone have any idea of what this baby is? I believe it is a pullet, but I cannot figure out what she may be. I bought some fertile eggs from someone but cannot find that breeder to ask. I don't really care, but curious. TIA
I have 2 hens that appear to have injured feet or legs. They won't walk on them and hobble around when they need to get somewhere. They are eating and drinking fine. Any ideas of what could be wrong? In the past, I've taken my girls to an avian vet. It just gets really expensive. If this is...
I have to put fresh bedding in my chickens nesting box everyday. They are scratching it all out almost as soon as I refill it. Is there a reason, or is this just my chickens doing normal chicken stuff? I know they are pretty cold weather hardy, but I still want them to have a warm bed during the...
I know what my little Frizzle is (he's a butthole), but I have no clue what the other's genders are. Any guesses? I apologize the pictures aren't better. They were the best I could get.
I just lost one of my Sultans. I have a Silkie that was a little sick, as well. I changed my chicken feed a few days ago. A couple of days after, a few in my flock started getting air in their crop. Could this be the reason? I'm still relatively new to raising chickens, so any advice would be...
Is there any way to tell what gender my babies are? They are about 8 week old. One is a Frizzle, 2 are Silkies, and 2 are (I think) Polish. I'm at work or I'd include a picture. I can take one when I get home. In the meantime, any advice?
My little Mille Fleur hen has lost all the feathers on her neck. I haven't noticed the rooster, or any other chicken being mean to her. They have been gone for about 2 months now. I've tried several things to get them to grow back, but to no avail. I think she's just a nervous Nelly. Any advice...
This is Weezer. He is a young rooster that has only been crowing for about 3 weeks now. But, here is my question: Is he a full-blooded Sebright or mixed? Just wondering. I love him and I think he is handsome either way. On a side note, he crows every single time I go out to the coop. Is it...
I have a couple of hens that I cannot seem to figure what breed they are. I'm hoping someone will be able to enlighten me. Here is a picture of one hen. The other is a light buff with a slightly darker head and neck. Of course it's the one on the right...
