These two are six weeks old but have had combs looking like that for a good two or three weeks now. You can see the other one (ginger at front of one of the pics) hasn’t developed it’s comb etc yet so hoping that’s a pullet.
I just need to confirm the other two are cockerels.
The black one...
Hello, my chicks are in a shed which I’m adapting into their house. I would like like to put something down to protect the wooden floor, and then I could put loose substrate on top. However, it cannot be any kind of rubbery material as I have a bunny who likes to eat soft plastic and rubber...
It’s a mess at the moment as I’m going to pull everything out. I plan to keep the small hutch there for storage (and emergency/hospital use), and put the nest boxes on top of the hutch, so that the rabbits don’t go in them and toilet etc. is this a good idea? I’ve heard perches should be higher...
Okay this chick, 4.5 weeks old. His comb grew and reddened at 3 weeks old so I was thinking cockerel. But seeing his feathers from behind I’m not sure He looks like a pullet?
mixed breed, buff or lavender orpington & white legbar & maybe something else.
Hi my 8 week old chicks have been pooping like water the last few days. It’s been super hot here but they’ve had water. One thing is they've been having some lettuce as treats but only just had grit for the first time today. The lady in the shop said chicks don’t need grit but I decided against...
My seven week old chicks have been trying to cluck cluck for a few weeks now but a couple of times I actually heard a full on song like the egg song bbbbbbuckark bbbbbbbuckark bbbbbbuckark! I wonder what it means at this age? Maybe they are telling the younger chicks off?
Almost fully feathered. It’s belly and back is still pretty bare. I think it might be part jersey giant so I’m assuming the large breeds take a bit longer to mature? I’m not massively worried as it’s a super friendly, happy chick. Hope 🤞 it will be a pullet.
Hey guys, just playing a bit here I guess 😂 but yeah, got a few three-week old (EDIT-crossbreed) buff orpingtons. One feathered up really quick compared to the other two, and now it has a comb twice the size and much more red/pink than it’s broodmates. I’ve got some (low quality) pics for you to...
Hi there, I currently have three fuzzy little week old chicks, and two four week old chicks. Just wondering when they can all go together as there’s only three weeks between them.
Thanks!
It’s a bit smaller than the other two, not a massive concern, but it hangs it’s wings down like they are too big for it’s body. It’s not properly standing or walking yet, unlike the other one that hatched with it (about seven hours ago). Also it’s peeping doesnt sound normal. Otherwise though it...
Out of eight fertilised eggs that were given to me (and kept in much less than optimal conditions for a couple weeks), these two came to us on sat (day 20) and sun (day 21). Sunday’s chick was trying well over 12 hours to get out, had unzipped most of the way but the membrane wasn’t allowing it...
I’m brand new to raising chicks so I have no clue if this is normal. I had eight eggs but only two have hatched (so far). (to be fair they weren’t supposed to be for hatching so werent stored right for a while). The problem is one chick hatched yesterday and another hatched today. I tried to...
Hi there so three days to go and I’ve turned all the eggs with the air cell upwards. Only thing is a couple of the larger eggs are touching the incubator lid! Should I tilt them slightly so the chick has room to come out?
thanks.
Not sure if the candling light is bright enough to see what’s going on, it’s the built in LEDs the incubator has. Just want a quick opinion if these look okay for a couple days in.
The incubator holds all eggs the right way up (pointy side down).
I turn them Throughout the day by twisting them...
