We ordered two Silver Gray Dorking pullets. When we looked on feather site (see link below) they look like males to us. What do you think?

Well, Stella is in orientation over her new flock she will be in charge of. She is studying them intently so that she can learn their idiosyncrasies and be there for any events calling for her expertize. Her last flock has prospered because of her unfailing loyalty. Such a good chicken keeper!
Just playing with our new chicks and the camera, and thought I would post pics of the Salmon Faverolles. It is the first time we have had these, and are excited to see how they turn out. We are supposed to have three pullets and a cockerel. They are so cute, and a bit shy compared to the...
I have a few blogs on my favorites on my computer that I check on every few days. I enjoy it when I stumble across someone that has some chickens. It is just interesting to me to read about the everyday adventures of the humble chicken, and to see the different people that have decided to get...
Okay, is it just down here in the South? We were at the grocery tonight and buying eggs (come on girls, grow up so we can have fresh eggs), and the organic eggs were $4.29 a dozen, with the eggs they call "cage free" going for $2.79, and they are SMALL....I already have friends telling me to...
Okay. I am sure our Roux is a cockerel. Oreo probably is too, but the comb is really different and I am not sure yet. What do ya'll think? The first couple of pics are Roux, the next ones are Oreo, and the last ones are our other chicken, Stella. She really thinks she is one of them--tries...
My DH and I had to go to Jackson, MS the other day. On the way back, we passed a semi truck from Tyson Farms. (Why do they call their operation a FARM I wonder???) Anyway, the trailer it was pulling was full of chickens. We looked at them and could not speak. There were so many crammed in...
My DH and I are wine lovers. Basically novices when it comes down to it, but we have learned a thing or to. We are mostly drawn to red wine, but like to know about any others that are nice too, especially since we sometimes have guests that prefer whites. I would like to hear about any wines...
I guess I can't. I went out for a walk-about in the yard this afternoon and took my camera along to get some pics of a few of the things in bloom, and a couple of my chickens. They make me laugh just looking at them. Thought you might enjoy...

I was just wondering what makes most people get chickens these days in the first place?
I have always loved being a homemaker, reading stories about the old-fashioned way of life, even as a kid I devoured books like the Little House series. But I never really thought about actually owning...
I have one little roo for sure, but I think another one possibly. One has a comb that is not as big or pink. But both of their tails are different than the other EEs we have. So what do you think; two roos? BTW, they are both extremely sweet right now. Shame if that changes! Oh, and they...
Hi! We finally got our coop and run finished enough to post. We still need to paint two sides and build out the nest boxes on the right side. It is so nice to just go out in the morning and open their hatch to let them out to the run. We used some old windows and a door that we got from a...
Today was just one of those days that feels real satisfying. A gorgeous spring day when all of the trees are green, the perennials from last year are up and happy, the birds are singing, I saw a pair of bobwhites noshing at the feeder, and our chicken run is finished and our chickens are...
After I ordered my 15 chicks and had them going just perfectly fine thank you, we went to the feed store and there were baby EEs. Of course you know we had to pick some. So we got 5 new chicks. (Wouldn't you?) Now they are two weeks old. I have been suspicious about one of these supposed...
I live in the deep south and every year we get love bugs that cover everything. The bugs don't seem to hurt any plants but they get so bad that you don't want to go outside. These are the same bugs that fly around with their butts stuck together (go figure) and cover the front of your car when...
I have enjoyed reading many books on chicken rearing. I tried to pick the kind of chickens that will have a good temperament, and also lay some pretty eggs. Now after watching them several days, I am wondering what they will look like when they go through the awkward "tween" stages.....anybody...
I was cleaning the house today and was about to light some of my scented soy candles while I worked. My baby chicks are in the sunroom, open to the house. All of a sudden I remembered that you are not supposed to light candles with pet birds in the house. I guess that would have to include...
Anybody know how to get rid of an Armadillo? One has burrowed right under our foundation, and every night digs holes all over the yard. My dog had him right out in the open the other night, and my DH went to the neighbors to borrow his gun. By the time they came back, it had dug itself out of...
Our dog Stella cannot get enough of the new nature TV we got yesterday!! I had to fix up a little pallet so she could get comfy and watch the chick channel....
Well, I have been lurking around here for awhile, especially since my DH and I decided to get our chicks. They arrived today, all 15, safe and sound from Ideal. We received 3 Barred Rocks, 3 Ameraucanas, 3 speckled sussex, 3 cuckoo marans, and 3 welsummers, all pullets. They are all resting...
