    Beak injury?

Two of my hens have this spot on their beaks, like they've rubbed it raw on top or something? This one has some rubbing on the tip too, like its been rubbed blunt on the top beak instead of more pointed. The other two don't. Could they be pecking at each other? This is a new one for me. Should I...

Cut on foot - advice please

I just noticed this today, looks like it was from a shallow cut thats started healing, it isn't bleeding. Should I put some antibiotics on it covered with Vaseline? I'm worried my other hens may start pecking it. Hen is acting, walking completely normally.

Something caught in throat or respiratory illness?

Please weigh in! I just noticed her acting like this today. She is not honking, just making a small sound if you get really close. Its hard to describe. She's locked up for the night though. Will see how she is in the morning. I put a link to a video showing her, I don't know how to upload a...

    Boys or girls?

Golden lacy wyandotte and a RIR. They're 9 or 10 weeks based on how old I guessed they were when I picked them up at the feed store.

    5 days no egg

Hi, I have a year old WH that has been laying consistently since March, so around 140 eggs this year. She's looking pretty scrappy, her feathers are no longer really smooth and soft like my 5 mo olds. She preens fine. She lost her best friend four weeks ago and has had the stress of...

Anyone know what type of wormy this is?

No one is acting off, found in a water dish that's been outside. It moves around like an inch worm, grabbing with head, moving forward whole body. All my ducks and chickens free range (in fact one of the roosters caught and they all presumably ate a wild sparrow yesterday yuck). Just looking...

    Golden Wyandotte?

I bought 3 Wyandotte (I thought they were black silver lace pullets, at least that's what the sign said) 2 weeks ago from tractor supply, and I think they must have already been about 1-2 weeks old because they had quite a few feathers already. Is this golden Wyandotte? Hopefully they will...

    Are my hens actually drakes?!

So I ordered two female welsh harlequins this year......confirmed on invoice today that I hadn't accidentally ordered straight run. Ummmmm are both my hens actually drakes? They're 8 weeks and by this time my welsh hens from last year already had dark bills and darker feet and whiter heads...and...

    Temporary dog crate?

Hi all, I am wondering if anyone knows if the hard sided plastic dog crates are predator proof for overnights while we build our predator proof run/coop. We have 2 ducks in a snap lock formex and that thing is racoon proof, there's bite marks to prove it. Would a dog crate as a temp overnight...

    They came a day early!

Agh! I'm new to chicks and my three came a day in the mail earlier than I expected. Its reading 84 degrees on my infrared thermometer under their heat plate. Is that warm enough?!? Air temp in the room is like 68F. I could set up a space heater I suppose. I'm on my way to tractor supply so can...

4 weeks old ducklings off heat?

Hi, my 4 ducklings will be 4 weeks old tomorrow and are starting to feather. They seem to ignore their heat plate most of the time. Can I take it out of their brooder now? I found a chart that says by week 4 their ideal temp is 55F?! .....its 64-66 in the room they are in. Thanks all.

    Duckling feed

Last year I did chick raiser supplemented with yeast for niacin for my ducklings. I am getting 4 new ducklings next week. Anyone try mazuri waterfowl starter before? I couldn't find where it said anything about niacin content/availability on the listing but the listing does say it doesn't...

    Egg watch

So my harlequin ducks are 6 months. Will they start laying soon? Or do you think cold/winter/low daylight will push them to lay once the days start getting significantly longer?

    Bringing them inside a mistake?

I have three 5mo old Welsh harlequin hens During the Midwest cold snap (up to -18F not including wind chill) i brought them inside our cement floor room in a penned off area (~35-40F) These past 2 days it got to 20F and I've put them out to free range. Am I at risk of giving them some sort of...
