To anyone who followed the saga of the Whole Flock Going to Freezer Camp I have an update.
I got an egg. Actually I have two hens now laying. How did this happen you ask? Well I followed some of the suggestions on this thread, to no avail. So what I did was to go into the hen house, had one...
I have about 25 hens that I got first of April. It is now December and not one egg. I am done feeding them. This weekend they are all going to the freezer. Guess I will maybe try again in spring. I may be done with chickens.
Okay I bought ten barred rocks and ten black austeroups, yes I know I did not spell that correctly, at the first of of April. I have not gotten an egg yet? Any suggestions?
and came home with 10 little RIR pullets, plus 2 little turkeys. That gives me 54 birds. Plus I am going to 1st Monday Trades Day this weekend, and carrying my cage. I am going for ducks, but you never know. I have said I will not go over 100. That does not include the ducks and turkeys, or...
I turned my ladies out in a pasture I was mowing yesterday. There were bugs and crickets everywhere. I don't think they actually ate many, there were running from one to the other, then they would spy another and off they would go. They had a field day. They must have gained a pound each...
Well it happened. I walked out to coop Friday evening. I opened the first door and there lay a 5 1/2 foot snake. It was on its way to the hen house. I removed him. I noticed that my little pullets were all upset, they are in a brooder about 4 foot off the ground. I think he had tried to...
I found a lady who needs to sell 9 year and a half old RIR. I am going to get them tomorrow. That gives me 21 laying hens, and 25 that are two weeks old. My question is is there any thing I need to do special to introduce them to one another?
Well I turned out my girls Saturday morning and off they went. Well about 10 it started snowing. WELL snow in Texas is something, snow in Texas in April, well that is crazy. It was snowing hard. I looked out and up the pasture the girls were running, all ran right into the coop. Well it...
I brought home my little girls yesterday. 20 White Leghorns, 5 Brown Leghorns. They are so cute. They went straight to the food and water. Temp is right at 90, two lamps incase one goes out. Several would come over when I put my hand in and jump in my hand. They are all alert, moving...
I have had my ladies for a bit now and have noticed that they all seem to develop their own personalities. I have several that will run up to you and squat down, if you don't rub them or pick them up, the will run back up to you and do the same. Some of them will just follow you around the...
Well we are off and running in the egg business.:o We have given away some, but they are still piling up in the ice box. After gathering them yesterday we have 5 dozen. I told my wife put up a sign at the hospital, she works there, she called me this morning and said she needed 8 dozen by...
As you know I just ordered 25 more babies. If I order some baby ducks can I put them together when I get them. Do they need the same heat source 250 w, food and such. Will they get along?
Thanks
Hey guys. I think I may have a problem. Last year we bought 20 acres. I turned an old barn into a coop, bought 15 laying hens and now I want to add more. I am looking at 15 White Leghorns. I love them, feeding them, gathering eggs, throwing them scraps. Problem is we eat few eggs, there...
I recently bought some chickens, about 16 weeks old, and I have several dogs. I have chickens in a pen, and dogs in a pen. I do let the dogs out in the evenings, I would like to let the chickens range too. Can the dogs and chickens be acclimated to each other? If so, how do you go about...
