    Pretty Mutt chick

This chick is an EE barnyard mix from my brother's flock. I love her coloring-- we call her calico. Any thoughts as to what she might have been crossed with to get colors like this? Some feathers are barred, some are laced, some are buff, others black... and her under feathers are blue. Super cute.

    2013 project for my boys

My sons are wanting to do a hatching project for 2013. They want to hatch eggs (any kind of eggs) from all of the lower 48 states. I figured this would be the best place to voice it about and see if anyone would be interested in participating.

    Murderous stray dog= heartbroken family

We hatched a pilgrim gosling about two months ago, a sweet little male, who was the only survivor of insanely thick egg shells. Tonight a stray dog went through two fences and killed our goose, and our muscovy ducks. We are devestated. Goosie was handled daily, ate out of our hands, and was a...

Geese needed== eggs, goslings, or whatever no African or Chinese, pls.

Neighborhood stray dogs went through two fences to kill our muscovies and my six year old's pet goose-- the love of his life. He desperately wants a goose to replace his love, and his brother really wants one too. We are located in AZ, so long-distance shipping on adult animals isn't going to be...

    Pilgrim gosling drooling massively?

We have a single pilgrim goose-- about two months old. He is a family favorite, but something is really off today. He's not interested in feed (which never happens) has tripped several times, but, what worries me the most, every time he bends his neck it looks like all the water I've been giving...

New Ducks-- unsure of sex/breed-- PIC HEAVY!

Sorry for all the pics. These guys/gals came from a shipment from Ideal's hatchery's mix of ducks... I'm guessing the dark one is a cayuga? Really have no idea... I don't know if you can see, but the bigger one is turning Buff colored and has a white ring around the neck...

    Silkies

Hopefully this is posted in the proper place. I have hatched out silkies three times. Once white, once BBS, and this last time Lavender... here's my question. Is it normal for the Lavender silkies to be of lesser quality because they are rarer? One of my chicks doesn't even have the extra...

    Welp Hatchery Turkey Assortment?

So, I have a question about Welp hatchery, if anyone has used them and what they got in their 'Hatchery's Choice' assortment of turkeys. I eventually want to get into heritage breeds, but this will be our first time having turkeys, so I am going to practice on the more affordable option. Has...

He has fallen victim to Poultryitis

My DH has FINALLY fallen victim to poultry-itis. Yesterday he suddenly declared, "I just want some TURKEYS!" His impression of a spoiled five year old was quite excellent . So, I have a question about Welp hatchery, if anyone has used them and what they got in their 'Hatchery's Choice'...

Cockeral behavior? Or just Chicking around? :)

My silkies are now about a month old and I've noticed that they all love to bounced around and do that chest bumping thing that I usually associate with cockerals. Should I assume that those chicks are male, then? Or do all chicks like to bounce off each other like that?

    Wow are silkie chicks FRIENDLY!

We just hatched out two little silkie chicks yesterday and they are soooo uber friendly. They want to be held all the time and snuggle and just are all around loves. I wonder if this friendliness is what makes them great brooders and moms later? A bunch of pics of them...

Chicks are here! And playing football with the other eggs!

Well, my eggs are not due until tomorrow or the next day (slightly staggered hatch ) but we already have two beautiful little silkie chicks that have hatched. I'll post pics when they are out of the incubator as it is impossible while they are in there. I am a little concerned that they are...

    Spouses and Animals

I was just talking to my DH, who has a new job starting up and talking about how we could afford to possible actually get a house where (more) animals are allowed to be. DH: I thought we had enough animals. Me: Probably for here, you're right, but it doesn't keep me from wishing for some goats...
