So...last night I went out to close the chickens in for the night, and I slipped and fell on the ice. SO mad at myself...
Anyway, I was going to put in an auto door...and now I'm REALLY doing it because it would have saved me a painful injury and an ER visit last night.
So...my question is -...
So...My husband got me the OverEZ 12 Gallon Waterer for my chicks who are growing very quickly!
I am adding more panels to increase the 100sf space to 200sf, but want to consider placing this waterer outside the fence for ease of access...and not wasting ground space...and to keep the OFF the...
SO! I have 11 chicks that are 7 weeks old...fully feathered & doing great! I'm SO please with them!!
That said...I'm afraid I don't have the brightest chicks in the world-wide coop...
We have had (with more coming) cold weather here in Western North Carolina...it will be in the teens this...
So...I have a group of 11 pullets & cockerels that I'm growing out - they are English Buff Orpingtons...and they are now all feathered (6 weeks old today).
SO...in Florida - all coops are built with nothing but ventilation - you don't want to cook your chickens in there, so all were built with...
So in September, I was super excited to get back into hatching my own fertile eggs since we are now in NC in our brand new home...with room for chickens!!
I purchased a Brinsea Maxi 24 EX incubator thinking I was buying the very best out there...I'd used the Brinsea Octagon 20 Advanced with...
We finally made the jump from Wesley Chapel, Fl to just the Waynesville, NC area...how do I update my current city/state? I can't seem to figure it out...and I've already had a couple of people mention help available to me at my location...which is now incorrect :-)
Thank you!
I am suspicious of the temperature inside my Brinsea Maxi 24 EX.
I have read through the threads here and see that Govee is highly recommended...but...which one?
Like I said...bonus points for an Amazon link - and a big thank you!
Last week I received my brand new Brinsea Maxi 24 EX, and it arrived without the power cord.
I immediately reached out to the Brinsea, and they shipped it via Fed Ex...the problem is that it is stuck somewhere between there and here due to Hurricane Helene.
Amazon is, somehow, still getting...
Ok, so I have English Crele Orpington eggs arriving on Oct. 1st.
And I ordered 8 chicks from MPC that will arrive on October 8th.
I wish the timing of arrival/hatching were closer together, but it's challenging in fall to find the breeds/availability that you want.
So...how long should I...
Hello! Quick question...
I'm going to be hatching my first batch of chicks in 10 years, and I wondered if anyone has used puppy potty pads? Not the paper ones, and not the stuffed ones...they are like bed pads for the incontinent.
I show and breed Papillons, and I have an endless supply of...
So...we will be closing on our new home (one acre, so small) in about 6 weeks...and I will be setting up our new coop(s) (you KNOW there is always a second one, LOL!!!)
SO...modifications...how have handled them. Specifically, have you been able to add an electric coop door? What did buy, how...
How do I fix this in my profile? I've tried for two days...I don't want it to say, "it's like herding cats!" anymore...and I can't figure out how to change it...
Can anyone help? :-)
We are just so excited for out puppy!!! We can't pick him up until he is 10-12 weeks old (November 2nd is the soonest), so we are filling our time with all the preparations!
Here are the most recent pictures I have (from last week) when he was four weeks old....and his ears are just starting...
I owned and showed three Papillons for the better part of 20 years. The loss of my last one in 2006 nearly broke my heart, and I didn't feel ready to get a new one.
I've kept myself busy with our Corgi (she passed in December), our British Shorthair cats (4 of them), my chickens, and my...
Due to some problems with the property we own, I had to sell all my gorgeous Buff Orps and SLW that I hatched here with all of you this last year. All 40 have been sold.
We are so sad......but we are looking forward to buying a new farm in N.C. and we will start again.
I'm going to miss the...
I have several chickens that go seriously broody each year, and I'm considering letting one of them raise a clutch this time around.
IF I do this, I have a metal dog crate that I have put hardware cloth around on all sides, and I will place this inside the coop where she lives with two other...
This is my niece, Sara. She is 8yrs old - and I just love her to pieces! They (my sister, my BIL, my nephew, and Sara) were here for four days...and Sara came with me EVERY time to do barn chores - and she really, really helped!
Here she is - pink bow and all (I bought it for her at Justice...
I went to open the pop-door to let them out for the day and he came flying out at me and trying to spur me! This frickin' bird has lost his ever loing mind!
He is a year old and has been respectful until now.
I went after him and kicked him good when he tried to have another go at me...
I have four really nice quality SLW. They may not win - but I certainly wouldn't be embarrased by them....it's not like they'd be way our of their league...but I have no idea how to show.
There is a show less than 10 miles from our house on March 3rd. I soooooo want to go!
Here are some...
I have had a Brinsea Eco 20 & and a mini eco....they are great & given me nearly 100% hatch rates every time!
But I found myself constantly adjusting my temps to compensate for the daily fluctuations in temps. AND I *needed* one more incubator!!!
Ohhhhh! I can't wait!! It will be here...
