I ordered Probios for my chickens as they cannot seem to stop with diarrhea. The directions only say to give 1/2 tsp per bird, per day. Since I have 9 hens, I would like to put it in their drinking water. Does anyone know how much to use per gallon of water for this many birds?
I am stumped. Have 9 hens, 1 1/2 years old. Started with diarreah about a month ago. Saw worms in poo so wormed them with valbazen per Dawg's instructions--1/2cc 10 days apart. Last dose was 6/25/13. Gave them buttermilk some days to help with gastric recovery. Diarreah still going on in...
I have a mixed flock of 14 hens including one Ancona. I thought she was a she since she does not crow, but her behavior is becoming questionable. They are all 23 weeks old and have gotten along well with each other. In the past week, the Ancona has begun chasing, mainly, one dominique almost...
I have an ant problem in and around my coop. They come from pine trees and are menacing to say the least. I have 14 girls on the verge of laying. I found ants in the nest boxes a few days ago and sprinkled the shavings with Seven Dust to get rid of them. Tried DE first, but that didn't work...
Would like to share our new coop pictures. The coop is 6'x8' with 2 roosts and 3 nest boxes. Haven't uncovered the boxes as girls are about 3 weeks away from laying. Used leftover tin from roof for poop boards. Just scoop up poop with garden trowel every day or too--very easy. Going with...
This is supposedly an Ancona, which I've never had one of, so don't know what a pullet/cockerel is supposed to look like. He/she is 4 1/2 weeks old. I ordered pullets, but thinking by the tail feathers, which don't show here, it may be a cockerel. Anyone willing to take a guess if it's an...
My 5-yr. old Australorp has developed a barky/hoarse sounding voice. She otherwise seems healthy and eats well. Don't know if this should be a concern. Does anyone have a clue to the problem. Thanks for any advice.
I have 15 week-old chicks. They eat their food very well, but yesterday started scratching their pine shavings down to the bottom of the floor of the brooder and eating the little minute pieces of pine shavings. They have just gone crazy doing this. I give them grit in their food and hope...
Is it harmful to feed my girls chicken scratch that has weevils in it. I only have two girls and I can only buy scratch in 40 lb. bags. It inevitably gets weevils before I can use it up, because I only give them a handful a day.
I have had a problem with some of my eggs since my girls began laying. Almost on a regular basis, I get an egg with a speck of what looks like blood in the egg. What causes this? It is not very appetizing looking, but I just scoop it out and eat them anyway. It makes me leary about giving my...
Is it possible to integrate young chicks with older hens? If so, what is the best way to do it? Also how to integrate full grown hens with older hens? Thank you for your advice.
I have 4 healthy hens raised from day 1 and are going on 4 years old. I have never seen sign of worms in their poop and have never wormed them. Can I assume they have not had or have worms or am I just dreaming? Thanks for your advice.
My chicken coop is secured with chicken wire top to bottom. A night in December, something gnawed through the wire and got inside. I found my one and only Golden Campine dead, but with no visible marks, only a tuft of feathers beside her. The hole the predator gnawed was about six inches...
