    Eggless for a month

Hi I have a question. I have three hens and they have been all eggless for about a month now. They are about a year and a half now, and we haven't had problems like this before. My Buff Orpington just got over a bout of EYP, and my Sex link just came out of a molt, but we have been eggless from...

    Bully Chicken

So my hens are over a year old now, and settled into their pecking order, but my head hen, Hot Lips, keeps on picking on my youngest (and coincidentally my hen on the very bottom of the pecking order), BJ. HL will jump on BJ's back, and grab onto her feathers so hard that they pull out. Bj now...

White patch on the side of her head?

So I recently noticed that on the side of my Buff Oprpington's head is this weird white patch where it should be red (I assume) and I've also noticed that compared to my other three chickens, her feathers are a little ragged and transparent almost. She's still running around and eating, so she...

    No eggs in a week

So I've only had these hens since April 1st and I got three of them as about 3 1/2 month old pullets and the other one was about 2 1/2 months old when I got her. At the beginning of this month my Barred Rock started laying about one egg a day for about two weeks and my Buff Orpington has only...

    Apple Cider Vinegar-Why?

So why ACV in their water? What is the exact purpose of adding it to their water? What does it do? I know that I use it to clean the coop, but what is the point in putting it in their water? I'd like to read any articles that support this. Thank you.

    Fly Problem

Is there a safe, natural way to reduce the fly population around my coop? We've tried fly traps, but those stink so much, that it's hard to stay out there and hang with my hens. Someone said diatomaceous earth works. I also read somewhere that a gallon jug with water and vinegar works. Any...

    Wyandotte Maturity

So I just purchased a gorgeous Blue Laced Red Wyandotte pullet. I was just wondering if anyone knew how long it takes for them to reach egg-laying maturity? She's is about 2 and a half months old. Thanks so much! Hawkeye (my Wyandotte!) is on the right and Hotlips Houlihan is on the right.

Garlic?! Corn?! Good, Bad? Any opinions?

I'm hearing conflicting reports every where. Is garlic good or bad for chickens? Some say it's great, and have no problems, and I even found a recipe for a garlic mash, and some say that it taints the way the eggs taste. I know that it's up to me what I want to do, but I would love to hear what...

    When to get the chicks

I live in Tucson, and I'm thinking of starting a flock. My roommate and I want to get a Barred Plymouth Rock, and a couple of Ameraucana. We want to do it soon, before it gets too hot here, but we're not sure if they're gonna do okay in the heat. So should we wait to get chicks or try pullets...

    Does any one know...

what breeds of chicken do best in a back yard in Tucson, AZ? I'm looking for nice looking, heat hardy chickens that are docile and good egg layers. I'm thinking of Rhode Island Red, Plymouth Rock, and a Wyandotte. Any other suggestions?
