I'm looking for new chickens for free-ranging with guinea fowl.
Currently I'm thinking of brown(preferable) leghorns. I've heard they're quite skittish and able to fly a lot better than the average chicken, I'm thinking this will be great for free ranging and predators. I live in Australia...
So my flock has CRD, It's heart breaking but I'm seriously contemplating culling the flock and thinking in the long run I'll be better off...
what do you think?
Originally I thought it was related to food being a bit finer with the chooks sneezing, that's not the case..
They were sneezing for over a month, not chronic tho, every now and then. Lately it's gotten colder to about 10-15c some times of night which I believed has sparked the sickness...
Today I followed a hen accross the road who had a nest of 19 eggs, I took her back to the coop and put those eggs in the nest in hopes she would stay there, that didn't work ofcourse.

Today after letting the chooks out I noticed one of my hens scoot off and up on the road. I picked her up, put her back with the other chooks.
she then sprinted off back....This time I decided to follow her, where I found 20 eggs!
My mother said that she thought she heard guineas outside, So I went to look...
(night time)
I got closer to the pen, 3 dead guineas on the ground.. 2 alive 4 missing... 10 weeks old. Heads missing, signs of struggle all throughout the coop, feathers and blood. Sounds like a possum..
Really...
So I was taking a picture as I normally to see how much they've grown, etc... When I came across this!
They're having a great time inside the chook house
I have 6-7 week old guinea fowl and noticing extremely sharp talons\\claws, Just wondering is this just a young thing (a bit like puppy teeth?). Actually drew a tiny bit of blood today Not sure how much longer I can handle them for.
thx
I've heard guinea fowl will eat small snakes and stress out the big ones to make them leave,
Does this apply to poisonous snakes as well? I have Red Bellied black snakes and Eastern brown snakes.
How are they with cane toads?
Hello, After reading about Guinea fowl (pro's\\cons etc etc) I've decided to get a group of 9. (was going to get 6-8 however the lady threw in the extras so they weren't left behind)
I've decided to get them for our 8.5 acre property, the closest neighbour is about 50meters away from the current...
