Hi there!
I'm looking to hatch out some rhea eggs this coming spring. Unfortunately, I have little experience with ratite incubation, and have a quick question about the incubator necessary. Most resources I've found seem to recommend a cabinet incubator, or at least one of the more expensive...
Greetings everyone!
In late May of this year, I hatched out a call duckling from only a few eggs- all of which from my own birds. The two parents were almost certainly not related, as they were from separate breeders in different states. A single duckling hatched from the two or so eggs...
Hello everyone,
I'm in the process of breeding some non-ideal buff chantecler stock, just sort of starting with what I have. The male has a nice cushion comb, but all the females I have have pea combs, which is rather annoying. I'm just curious what percentages of each comb the offspring will...
Hi everyone,
I bought a few rhea eggs the other day, and I'm about to start incubating. I've incubated other fowl before, but never ratites. I've found several online sources, as well as a book on raising emus. I'm just curious if there is any advice from people who have incubated ratite eggs...
Hi everyone.
I have an older styrofoam model incubator that I used to have successful hatches with, but I have not been pleased with it recently. I'm looking for a new model that can hold 20+ eggs at a time... I'd like it to be fairly inexspensive, but I also want it to have good hatching...
I recently acquired a book from the late 1800s, filled to the gills with fascinating information of the time. In the profile of the breeds of poultry, it had a section on crested turkeys, with an excellent drawing. It said that they were kept only for exhibition, and that one had had been...
Hi all.
I am interested in compiling a list here on this thread of various chantecler breeders around the US, Canada, wherever you're from. I have been raising chanteclers for a few years now, and though I'm not currently selling my birds (for lack of proper qualities) I hope to be in the...
Just an odd story. On thursday, my male runner duck disappeared. I assumed it was an owl attack and that I would probably never see him again. However, just this morning, I was taking walk past our vineyard and our windbreaks to our pasture about 500 feet away, and there was my duck. Perfectly...
I have long played with the idea of making coops out of a truck cap. It was only recently that I have had a chance to do this. I have one for my ducks, but I would like to see pictures plans and descriptions of other ones, or ideas. Please post!
Hey everybody. Recently I set up a couple coops with electric fencing. I have had birds get tangled in it before, some died and some didn't. The biggest problems I have encountered with it are when a predator scares the birds inside, they run into the fence, the bends down, and the predator hops...

I just read the "found a gosling" article, and saw the number of different opinions about goose feed. I just purchased two shetland goslings, an am feeding them Albers poultry food. The bag says it is for all ages of any type of poultry, but I'm not sure... Anyway, they are really adorable.
