I have now had three successful hatches, so I guess I am officially an addict. Yet, it still scares me when I see a chick sprawled out on its side. They always pop right up when I approach, but I just haven't gotten used to it. Anybody else still doing double-takes?
My pen of egg eaters have been cured...permanently. It was way too hot to fire up the grill, so they went into the saute pan with onions and peppers. They were about four months old and seemed a little tough. For eating is it better to do so earlier. What is your experience/advice?
My first hatch was 51 out of 66 and they hatched on days 19-21. I adjusted the temperature and kept the humidity below 50 until day 14 and raised above 50 after. Today is day 16 for hatch #2 and many of the eggs are already pipped.
This week I sold my first quail - 20 3 week olds and 5 dozen eggs. I won't be making any money but it will cover the next trip to the feed store. My wife is happy - this is my first sustainable hobby!
Set 66 coturnix eggs in Brinsea Eco 20 on July 1. Temperature has been rock solid 99.5. I did not check humidity. Put water in one slot and turned three times a day. Placed water in both slots on day 14. Nothing yet. I guess I should have gotten a gauge to check humidity? Any suggestions...
My Brinsea Eco 20 came in today. I have been setting aside eggs since Thursday and now have 44. Should hit 60 tomorrow. Can't wait to set them.
Should I start tomorrow or wait a day of two?
Got the discount code from Facebook and ordered a Brinsea ECO 20. With code and sale the price was 89 and 113 with shipping. Can't wait to set some eggs!
Okay, I am up to about a dozen or so eggs a day. I am ready to try out incubating them. I want to go with the Brinsea Eco 20. I read in a previous thread that they were on sale. When I checked the website they were a little over $120. Does anyone know how often they go on sale?
Some neighbors were throwing out an 3' x 7' chicken coop on casters. It was covered all in tin with a small door on one side. I replaced one side with hardware cloth covered doors and got 20 new coturnix. Yesterday one laid an egg without a shell (it was whole in the membrane). Does this...
I provide my coturnix with a bowl of sand/grit. They have it emptied quickly and, as they are on wire, it is all gone. How often do I need to give this to them? Is there a better method? Suggestions, please?
New to the hobby. Bought birds on 5/13 after reading many posts in this forum. I went with 4-5 week old to start with. I have 8 (2M/6F) in a 2' x 4' rabbit hutch. Collected my first egg today!! Getting hooked. Thanks for all the helpful information. I would post pics but am still blocked...
