Incubator doesn't seem to be working properly, set eggs under broody hen possible??

My incubator seemed to be working fine a couple of days ago, but has been acting up. I have 8 eggs that seem to be doing ok, but was wondering if it would be better to place them under a broody hen?

hen pecked severley in vent area!

My neighbor brought over his hen that had been severely pecked in the vent area. Well, she has scabbed over (blu-kote was applied) and it seems like there is dead tissue around it. She also can't seem to poop very well. Yesterday she was trying to lay an egg and just could not no matter how hard...

    Treating entire flock of birds...

I have found two hens so far (one Monday the other one Tuesday night) that have the gurgling breathing sound, runny nose and watery eye. I have seperated them and each have received a dose of LA200 so far. I listened in the coop for a while last night and did not hear any more similar sounds...

How much light do I need in the coop during the fall/winter months?

We are trying to outfit my new 8x12 lofted shed/coop for the fall/winter low light months to keep the hens laying as normal as possible. The shed faces south and has two windows on the front. I have 9 5wk olds that will be sharing the coop (separated of course and with a heat lamp). The adults...

    possible bite? very swollen eye/face

I just happen to walk by my Buff Orpington last night and see that one side of her face was swollen and eye was closed shut almost. This had to have happened while I was at work yesterday. I gathered her up, secluded her and without thinking or asking those more knowledgeable than myself, gave...

pullet or cockeral? should've been able to tell by now!

Good morning folks! I have a question regarding the maturing of Black copper Marans. I have three that are all the same age (give or take a day or two). I thought I was lucky enough to get 2 pullets and 1 cockeral. They are all turning 6mths. The Cockeral has already started to do his thing with...

    boy or girl?

Well, thought I had a trio of blue orpingtons, but now I'm not so sure! It hasn't crowed, or try to mate with anything yet (although I did just get them yesterday). Should start laying in the next month if it's a pullet. The year old rooster I got with them is beautiful and has a bit of color...

"Barn" style coop and roundpen turned chicken yard.

A lovely couple in Claremore, Ok built this for me. I just love it! My wonderful husband added a window on the front and back and we built a "back patio" behind it for shade, roosting and dust bathing. Wonder if I could put air conditioning in?

It's about 100° degrees out here and the chickens seem very hot (they're hanging out under the coop). Do they like misters or sprinklers?

My Orpington sounded constipated this morning...

When I went out to let the girls out this morning, Columbia (Buff Columbian) as usual was the last one to make it out. As I was looking at her face to face (she was still on the roost) she made this sound a few times that almost sounded like she was trying to poop but just couldn't. As soon as I...

what does it mean "layering" feed?

What does "layering" feed mean? The guy I bought my Silver laced Wyandotts (about a year old) said he also uses 18% protein feed. How do I get that?

My (I was told she was a columbian orpington) seems to have a twitch in her head, like she is trying to shake something out. Possible ear mites? None of the other chickens are acting like this.

Pullett coughed up a worm, what now?

This morning my not sure what kind of bantam she is seemed like she was gasping for air suddenly! Like she was partially choking on something. Last night I wormed all the chickens and thought maybe it was a reaction to that. I kept her with me all day and when I got her home she hacked up what...
