...since the last time I was here. I've been wanting chickens for a long time and my living situation has always stopped me. Soon we hope to move into a house across town. We will be renting but our soon-to-be-roommate who currently lives at the house says the landlord doesn't mind animals as...
Would this work for 2-3 bantams? I saw this same exact thing at a reptile store I frequent for $75.

They would probably say no to chickens. I've actually started to think that I should hold off on having chickens until I have a house or small farm. The only problem is everything is so expensive. Nothing near where I live, farm wise, is under $300k. It would be impossible at this point to get a...
the chicken ark would work great. We actually saw something similar used for turtles at the reptile store today and our first thought was "Could we use this as a chicken coop and run?" Its a bit smaller than those though. We could possibly cut some of the wire out and extend the run but the...
Keep posting pictures. Everytime you do, I show them to my fiance. And every time my fiance sees them, I get a little bit closer to completely convincing my fiance to be ok with us having chickens.
That would be a good screen name. Quiet is key here since I would not want to get my neighbors mad. Although, there is a family two doors down that has a dog that barks all the time. Yippy little thing.
Another item to discuss. There are some feral/outdoor cats that run around here. Not too...
We'd only need enough eggs for two people, and I can always give any extras to my grandmother and mother. (My grandmother eats eggs just about every day.)
Quiet is definitely a quality I need in a chicken. On a scale of 1-10, (1 being no noise whatsoever and 10 being a non-stop crowing rooster) how would you rate a bantam?
I still need to ok the keeping of chickens with my fiance, and I've got my fingers crossed. My fiance has basically said yes...
I posted before about possible wanting to keep chickens (illegally) in my backyard. I measured the space but I think a picture would serve me better here. This is how much space I have to work with. You can see how much "grass area" I have and how much concrete there is. The fence is roughly 6'...
Anyone know? We are about to head up to the farm supply store (Southern States) to get bedding for our rats. I'm worried that if they do have chicks I'm going to want to bring some home. But I doubt they have them there. I've never really looked though.
I was wondering if there is any way to tell whether a chick is male or female other than waiting till they grow up. The reason is, we want to get a few chicks but we definitely do not want a rooster (for noise reasons). So how can we tell? We were thinking of going to a farm supply store since...
Since I'm possibly venturing into keeping chickens, I was wondering if there is an organic chicken food? Bedding? Also what kinds of things would want to add to their diet. I've heard oyster shells for calcium. Can you get these organic? Anything else?
I would use it to compost and possibly give some to a co-worker who is just starting her composting venture. Actually she's taking me out today so I can buy a compost bin (going to use her Costco card. )
