Question about multiple breeds of chickens living together

Ok, so I currently have 2 Rhode Island Red roosters and 4 RIR hens. My question is if i get some Dominic and Orpington hens to go with them, will they lay eggs that produce either Dominic, Orpington, or RIR chicks? Or does that cause you to have "mutt" chickens? Thanks for any help:)

    My Tom kills snakes!?

So, this year alone, my tom has killed 4 snakes. I go to the pen late in the evening, and there will be a dead snake hanging in the fence. He doesn't even let them get fully in! Has anyone else ever had a turkey do this? I know he's a pretty tough guy, but it amazes me!

Moved my chicks out of the house today!

They are almost fully feathered now and trying to fly a little bit. Do you think they will be able to get to a safe place incase something tries to harm them? I don't think anything will be able to get to them, but I am a worry wort!

Moved my chicks out of the house today!

The chicks are the only ones in the coop. Grown turkeys are in another. I am afraid something will get them if they are by themselves at night. Thanks!

    BLechhhhhh

I would definitely consider using sand instead of straw. I have even used pine shavings in the run when in a pinch.

Moved my chicks out of the house today!

My chicks that hatched July 18, were moved out to their coop today! I can just tell they are so excited! I'm thinking about leaving them in there during the day, but bringing them back in at night time just to play it safe. Not sure. Any suggestions?

My hen doesn't sit on her eggs anymore!

This year was her 2nd year (1st year we had her). She and the tom were in the same pen the first two times she failed. She is currently laying again and I put the tom in another pen after she started laying. She usually starts sitting when she has 10 eggs, but only sits for a few days. And...

My hen doesn't sit on her eggs anymore!

Well, I got this hen when she was a year old. The previous owner was a close friend and I witnessed the hen hatch 6 chicks all on her own. My friend gave me the hen and the same tom she had been mating with, and since we have had her, she will lay eggs but won't sit on them. The few times she...

    Crazy things chickens do like?

Mine love to jump at almost 3 weeks. And when they jump, it's straight up and set all of them off to start jumping! Looks like popcorn!

Will this work as a chick feeder in my brooder???

Looks great! Also, it seems big enough to last you until they are nearly grown! Good job!

Are they normally quiet/calm right after hatching?

Depending on how strong the chicks are and how long it took them to hatch, chicks will either be running around like crazy or need a few days to re-coup from their hatching. I would let them rest and they will probably be running around by tomorrow. Usually my chicks take at least 24 hours...

Help i'm stuck on lock down

I know what you are going through!!! Seems like the past few times I have incubated eggs, I have had humidity problems. My experience is that chicks have no problem pipping the egg if the humidity is off, they just have a problem getting out. This being said, as long as you have no pipping...
