This is my Silkie coop....I know, I know, they dont like ramps but I never told mine.......I built most of it out of leftover materials from other projects and reject paint from Home Depot. It works great and I love the Pullet-shut door (It is my 2nd. one). I just added the rain gutter waterer...
I have had 5 Silkie hens and 1 rooster for several months now and just got a mated pair of showgirls. The rooster of each do not get along on the first day and I was just wondering if they will establish who is boss soon and quit the fighting all the time or do I need to get rid of the new...
How many eggs can I let my broody Serama sit on? I have hatched alot of incubator eggs but never used a "real" chicken...Any advice would be appreciated. On day 4 with the first egg and she has 7 under her now.
I have done alot of incubator hatches but I have a very broody Serama hen and was wondering about letting her hatch some of her own. I have 3 Serama hens and 1 rooster. I have hatched some of their eggs before and have about 80% fertility rate. Is their anything special I need to do to...
We want to put a fence up to seperate our patio from our backyard and I am not sure what to use. Any advice would be helpful. We do clip a wing on all of our chickens.(We have 7 Egg-layers, 4 Seramas and 9 Silkies). I heard I dont want to use a "solid" fence because they will perch on it...
Quick question..(on my way to the feed store later) We have a mix of breeds and sexes and I was wondering if it is best to just put out grower feed and have oyster shell available to the hens that need it? I heard that it is not good for the roosters to always eat the layer feed and the hens...
I got a little bored today and came up with this after building a pipe feeder last week. Have it sitting in the garage full of water to test it and then will install next week. I think hardest part will be getting it level. I think it will work and holds about 2 gallons.
I just built a Silkie coop/run and was going to put a door to let them free range with my other egg-laying chickens. If I do this will the chickens all go back to there own coops? Thanks for any input on this. I will try to add pics when I can.
Just finished my tractor yesterday. Took some basic plans off YouTube and the internet and just ran with it. Frame is all cedar and the plywood is 1/2", painted with exterior house paint. Was a fun project and kinda added my own touches to it and tried to make it look nice as it will be in...
I have a run and coop arrangement with 7 hens but I was wondering if it possible to add "extra" secure covered outdoor nest boxes in the run area? This would be to maybe relieve some stress on all of them trying to get into the coop to do it or will they all just pick out the same next box or 2...
I just set 12 Silkie eggs in my homemade incubator yesterday. I have never hatched Silkies before. Any tips or ideas? I got 21 out of 22 RIR's out of it a week ago and the 22 egg pipped and zipped but then died. :(
I had a golden pheasant that we helped hatch after it pipped and then only 1/4 of the way zipped so we helped it the rest of the way. Its toes are curled up and it wont or can not straighted them. Any advice on what or if anything we can do....We seprated it from the other one so it would not...
