Congrats
I've been busy all day but have been thinking about little Hardyand couldn't wait to see the outcome. So so pleased he made it out ok and good call on the intervention.
As for your Aussie forum what a bunch of idiots, so not helpful. BYC is def a much better bet
Good luck with the...
I know I know we're getting into the same position, last week my mum and auntie went to a charity auction and started bidding on a pair of geese for us Thankfully they didn't win.
Think the little ones have broken my husband tho, came home late from work the other day to find him sleeping on...
Well I wont judge!
I have two 15 week old partially sighted Pekin(cochin) bantam chicks still in a dog crate in the garage because I cant face taking them down to the chicken shed. It really is pathetic, they wont settle down to roost till after they have their cuddles at night!!
Husband very...
Hi
Sounds like there def is not a problem with the feed as well.
How long have you had them? The only thing I can think of is that there has been some damage there previously and that the patches are taking longer to re-grow after their moult.
Keep an eye on the re-growth and if it disappears...
Just read your thread, think it may be ok. So pleased for you, I always worry about cracking them open if they go past their hatch date. I'm just wondering if the temp was a bit low at some point in the incubation and thats why they have gone past day 21. So could be good news for the rest of...
Hmm I see what you mean they are quite large bald patches, I would normally go towards either mites/lice or feather plucking. But you seem quite sure that its not lice and I would be really suprised that all the chickens are feather eating each other in the same place.
What feed are they on...
Hi you need to do a few posts and welcome some people and hopefully should be able to post some pics. Will be a lot easier with some pics to look at.
Are they open sores?
It basically means the pellet food that has been ground up into a powder, the big boys use it in the commercial units as it is less wasteful because the chickens cant flick it out of the feed lines.
You can just slightly wet her pellets so the powder sticks to the feed or make some mash potato...
Not sure poss because the risk of salmonella but that shouldn't be a problem over here. Your hen is a hybrid and the majority of those are vaccinated against salmonella at the hatcheries
I dont think that you should over do it with the boiled eggs and give them more than one a day tho, you...

Hi
Glad she enjoyed, mine love anything with carbohydrates. Yes little and often is better for them. She'll soon learn about the bowls if you feed her stuff she likes.
Good luck with her
Hi Everway 9
Sorry to hear about your chicken, please dont put it down. I've got 2 Pekin chicks that are blind and they are getting on fine, the thing to do like the previous posts say is to make sure she knows where the food and water is. A boiled egg is a good idea, you could mix it up with...
Hiya
Dont worry if you take her off the nest, she'll squat for a little bit and then hopefully go and eat and return to the nest on her own.
21 days is a long time and if she is not eating or drinking when she is brooding then there is a risk of her losing a lot of weight and condition. I...
How many other eggs have you got to hatch?
Am so jealous, I loved doing all my hatching over the summer and now its over am missing seeing the babies come out. But have recently bought a roo for my cochin bantam girls so will have loads to hatch next year
You're welcome I know my first hatch I stayed up most of the night and think I ended up with a few grey hairs Wish I had found this site well before I started hatching....
The thing to be careful when helping them out is to stop chipping straight away if the membrane bleeds as this means they...
Hi
Thats quite a lot of blood around the egg, did you help it hatch?
They do come out of the egg completely knackered and need some recovery time. Also seeing as he is the first he wont have the cheeping of other chicks to react to.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you x
