Chicken has had increasing lethargy over past few days. Lost willingness to eat today. Not egg bound: can't feel an egg, and until she stopped eating she was pooping semi-solid feces. She is now standing with her wings slightly out to her side. Her eyes are usually closed. About half the time...
We bought a chicken in the late spring that was supposedly a cross between a Cuckoo Maran and an Ameraucana. We can definitelty see the Ameraucana in her butwe can only take the seller's word for the other half. She is just reaching the age where she should start laying. Yesterday, I caught her...
Yea everything I have looked at says they are fresh (shaking them to see if they "slosh" etc.) We don't have a rooster so they won't be fertile and developing.
One of our hens has been hiding her eggs. Today, I found her nest, with a full dozen eggs in it. I have tested them with the float/doesn't float method, and by that rule they are all fine. Are they all good? How long can eggs last out of the refrigerator? Can we eat them safely? Sorry for my...
Since this thread is not too old:
Your hes will stay broody for the time it would take to hatch an egg. Other than making them uncomfortable, or giving them eggs to hatch or chicks, there is nothing you can do to stop them. Just leave the hen and she will sit on the nest as if she had eggs...
Have any of you heard of Dr. William Davis' book "Wheat Belly?" I have had body aches and pains for years, and the diagnositic criteria for fibro, but after reading this book decided to try a wheat free (not necessarily gluten free) diet, and I have had a dramatic improvement in body pain (and...
This sounds boring compared to the rest of these, but our chickens have eaten a whole rhubarb plant, the leaves of which are highly toxic. Whats more, they seem to love it!
Me: ...and look at these eggs! (reffering to the lovely green eggs from our show quality ameraucana)
Person 2: Wow. Well, can you eat them?
Person 1: Aren't brown eggs healthier?
Me: *facepalm*
I am a spectator in this one:
Neighbor speaking to my mom: Your rooster is on the deck...
Does anyone have an explanation? She is more like 11 weeks in my opinion. Has all of her adult feathers. Her voice has changed, but barely. We got another chicken at the same time we got her, but the other is 2-3 weeks older. They are good friends, you will not find one without the other. Ember...
What a romantic rooster! He probably looks at you as one of his hens XD
Our hens submit to me the way they would to a rooster. They squat, slightly raising their wings. Our hens look to me as the dominant roo, your roo treats you as a flock member as well
I don't think she'd be egg bound if she laid an egg the day before. One of our hens didn't lay for several days, but she's older, and we figured she was just winding down production. She then suddenly looked obviously out of sorts (standing stock still and not eating), and after checking all...
Our Columbian wyandotte lays surprisingly small eggs (though they look no smaller in the pan). She is really noisy. I like her anyways, but take that into consideration. She is a beautiful bird
Thanks for the reply. I took the golf balls when she left for food. She didn't go back to the box after she found out they were gone. However, at night, she went back to the box and acted broody again. I decided to end it right there so I took her and put her on the roost with the big girls. She...
Our OEGB is broody. She has been for a long time, longer than it would take to hatch eggs. She is not eating very often, and is really skinny. It has got to the point where we bring her inside to feed her. She is sitting on golf balls. What can we do to get her to stop being broody? We are...
