Just updating - 9 out of the 12 eggs hatched - only one got stuck and needed a little assistance - it zipped 2/3 of the way round and got stuck.
Most are looking great - but a few have very splayed legs, so have taped them together, and all bar one are now standing Not sure about the...
Yes, stopped turning them at day 18.
The good news is - one has successfully hatched!! I didn't have to help it at all, and it hatched out the small side. Just about all of my eggs have now pipped and only two have done so in the right place. So fingers crossed for the rest!
Thank you. I sure hope they make it! Its now day 20 and nearly all of them have pipped - in the wrong place - some even in the pointy side. Can anyone shed any light on why?
Its day 19 and one of my eggs has pipped halfway down the egg towards the pointy end (but not in the pointy end if that makes sense). This is what happened to my very first chick in my first hatch and it died
sorry - didn't mean grow in the sense that the air cell is alive
This is only my second hatch - last hatch I could see the beak in the air cell though can't see anything this time. Chick was definitely alive at day 14

Good point. I have taken it out of the big incubator, put it in my small one by itself and upped the humidity as much as I can. Didn't want to increase humidity too much and endanger the rest of my eggs but didn't want to lose this one if chick is still alive either LOL so fingers...
the egg is at day 18 of incubation - its dark inside, where the chick should be but has lost more moisture loss than all the other eggs and is dropping dramatically even through the course of today and it was already larger to begin with...
I am stressing about air cells - I have such a variation - some I am worried are going to lose too much moisture, but the others don't seem to have lost enough. Is it because of the different egg shapes? The longer, pointier shaped eggs seem to have smaller aircells, where the rounder ones...
I have borrowed an RCOM 20 - its just the standard model, and does not have any pre-set settings on it. Lady I borrowed it from has only ever done duck eggs so had no idea on settings for chickens.... I did a bit of research and found a video clip by the supplier that said to set it at 37.5c...
thank you for that. I think I have it right, they are at the moment sleeping under the brooder, but every now and then get up and walk around and peep They don't seem interested in food or water yet, I did dip their beaks very carefully in the water, but as they are less than 24 hours old...
Hi, I am new to both chickens and BYC - I found this forum while looking for advice on my incubator eggs - and thanks to all the wonderful info on this site I had a very successful hatch, four eggs are now four fluffy butts
Oh, I am from New Zealand and am hoping to get into exhibition...
Anyone else use these? My first chicks hatched yesterday and have just moved them to one of these, but as its my first time with chicks, I am not sure how to tell they are the right temperature?
