happytraylz, all your questions are good, BUT this is Colorado, so most of the answers are "it really depends". The weather changes very fast, but you can count on at least 300 days a yr of sunshine. Winter, warm days 30*F to 65*+F, cold nights -10*F to 40*, windy 0MPH to 80mph and you can have...
I will need to keep good track of the chickens, so I was thinking of using wing bands. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of wing bands? And any advice.
yotricia02, Howdy neighbor, you north or south of 50, I'm so far south of 50, if I take a bad step, I fall in the river ? PM me, love the fact that there is someone so close in the group! Keep the kids sleding safe. Merry Christmas!
coloradochick, BYC is like going to chicken college, and FUN TOO! I do not have a bird yet, but when I do, I will do it right, thanks to all of you!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS to ALL
Howdy fellow Colorado people! I'm just SW of Pueblo West, and I got 8" and coming down heavy still, @ 4 AM I was running 26 MPH wind, and got drifts in the 2' plus range. GF had to drive to Briargate took her 2hrs. STAY SAFE AND WARM!!! Gus
Instead of hardware cloth or regular chicken wire, that costs an arm and a leg, I found Stucco chicken wire by Davis wire, it's 17 gauge (very heavy duty) 37.5" x 150' at the Home Depot for $65. Hope this helps out. Gus
Howdy, I've been reading a lot of posts, and I see that most of you lock up the chickens at night and let them out in the morning. Is this to protect them from predators? I plan on making several large tractor type coops, that will be predator proof. So I figured I could let them free to go in...
Thank you all for the info. RE: Wsmith, I'm just south west of PW(not in the metro district) and I'm zoned agri, I have no rules at all to deal with. I have no birds yet, as I'm looking into every detail, and until I have 100% everything in place and tested, I'm not getting any chicks, it would...
Good morning Folks, here is another New Egg question from Colorful Colorado. How do you protect yourself when selling eggs or meat. People are so sue happy, that if they get a little belly ache, they are going to sue you. Do you just take your chances? Insurance? Disclaimers?
Thanks, Gus
I just read on some other site, that people "debeak" chickens. Can anyone tell me if this is really needed? How many of you do this? If it really is needed, how do you do it? Boy, I'm learning a ton here. I'm not getting a single chick until I have every detail nailed down.
Thanks Folks
As a NEW EGG, I do not want to speak out of turn, or ask too many stupid questions, BUT WHY is it that most peeps here are so shy about saying where they live? Most don't list it at all, some are so vague, that if I lived next door I would not know it. I like it when I'm reading a post, and can...
Let me answer some of the the questions:
WestfarthingHomestead; Nothing in my world is TOO personal! We both have been the married route, and it sucked big time, we have been together for over 5 yrs, all is good. I'm already "Old and Gray" and she will never be Old and Gray, LOL
3goodeggs; Yes...
My girlfriend and I want to get into the small Ag business, and actually make a living at it. We are looking at mixing Rabbits, Chickens(meat and eggs), Goats.
Here is what we have, 46 acres of poor grazing land, with water well, over 340 days of sunshine, some $$$ to invest.
From reading a ton...
Jessi, thanks for the info, it kind of puts things in prospective. Would it weird to ask a "price range" that these chickens sell for in your area?
Thanks, Gus
