I have six Barred Rock Hens. Two of them have feathers missing on their bottom/rear end. Skin is pink/red but other than that they seem perfectly healthy. Maybe it's nothing to worry about?

My Barred Rocks have just started laying eggs (one week) but are not using the nesting boxes.
I am using shavings in the boxes could that be the problem?
Should I be using straw or hay?

My hens are mature, so this hen is not laying her first eggs.
The stickiness, wetness is well beyond the wetness of a freshly laid egg.

I have one chicken, can't tell which one, whose egg shell is often blood smeared and or sticky, damp.
Are they okay to use if washed thoroughly?
Can anyone help explain cause, remedy?
