Ok just got home... Bleeding has mostly stopped..., but I believe a bone is sticking out... Is there any hope or do I have to do what I really don't want to do?
yes it appears that it has, butI am at work....an hour and a half from home:( (is our favorite bird!!!!) My wife said that she went out and the bird was still alive. at that point she didnt know it was the entire wing...thought it was just feathers! She said that she went to pet her and when she...
My MINI dachshund got hold of one of my silkies....dont know how! ( I am a t work) my wife told me that one of the silkies wings was torn off....dont know where, but assuming it is the whole wing...is there anything I can do if it is the entire wing?
I have a two month old buff orpington hen that has a slight gap in the right side of her beak and the shin around her beak is red. What could this be? she appears to be acting normal.
First step.....STOP STRESSING ;).... I know your stress all too well...I to just did my first hatch and ended up with 7 out of 8 eggs hatching. I was completely stressed.
as far as the humidity goes...it does not matter how deep your water is it is the surface area of the water that matters...
I am by no means an expert...I just hatched my first batch of eggs. I know how easy it is to worry. Do the embryos move when you are candling? How often are you rotating? I have to admit I wanted to avoid any rotation problems and spent the extra couple bucks and got an egg turner. The size of...
Ok I survived incubation...lol...Actually did pretty well...started out with 8 eggs and actually hatched 7 chicks...not bad for a first timer...with a lot of advice from the forum. Now onward.. I have four different breeds from this hatch...2 Polish, 2 speckled sussex, 2 sizzle and one...
Sorry that it took me so long to reply...family emergency...I did VERY well thanks to everyone here! 7 out of 8 eggs hatched! I ended up with 2 speckled sussex...sooo cute....2 polish (cone heads)....and the last 3 are up for grabs...I am unsure if I have 1 silkie and 2 frizzle cochin/ silkie...
Chick # 1 just hatched it has a long yellowish whiteish membrane attached...does not appear to be intestine...from what I have read and been told...I need to just leave it alone and let it dry up....these are my first ever eggs....STRESSED but thrilled
Thanks...and you are right! Egg #1 is unzipping now...I know that I need to leave the chick in there to dry out, but some of the eggs havent even started...how long should I keep the chick in there ....I dont want him to disturb the other eggs....
is everything ok? we are on day 21and 3 out of the 8 eggs have cracks....but nothing else...the shell is cracked, but the membrane is in tact....humidity is 62 percent...is everything ok? We can hear the chirping from inside of the egg...why haven't they broken out....any experience person...is...
I have to admit I am a little nervous here! Tomorrow is the big lock down day! From all that I have read there are only a couple changes....the egg turner has to come out, the eggs are laid on the wire mesh with the larger end slightly elevated, and I need to raise the humidity level...what...
I agree. Give it a couple more days....I am doing my first batch and all mine looked like the last pic around day 3, but everyone told me not to even candle til day 7. Also many people have recommended doing the "smell test". Smell the egg and if it smells rotten get rid of it because it has...
I am using the hovabator 1602N....still air not forced air. I picked up the egg turner at the last second from Tractor Supply...I believe it is a little giant...both have done an excellent job so far. I had a little scare in the begining with the temp being a little too high, but it balance...
Alright I guess I could have timed it a little better...when exactly do I need to remove the turner and raise the humidity...Day 18 starts tuesday afternoon and wouldnt you figure I will be at work. I leave for work at 1130 AM and dont get back til around 1AM....I put the eggs in the incubator...
Funny story....we got 3 silkie chicks that were 4 weeks old...not able to sex yet! So we have been keeping them in the bathroom in a brooder until I can get the coop finished. We had our suspicions that two of them were roos (dont want any roos!) their combs and wattles were growing. Well last...
Well here we sit in day 11! all is going well! I didn't get to candle last night (Day 10) I got stuck at work on a double shift...GRRRRRR
As soon as I got home tonight I candled and all are growing :) WOOOOHOOOO Humidity dropped just a little bit to 33 so I added some water and it is still...
Ok...now you got me thinking too....I am incubating my first set of 8 eggs now so the experience level isn't high here...LOL the air buble is caused by the evaporation of fluid inside the egg right? I am wondering if by being in your bra/ upagainst you...the humidity level is too high. I am...
yeah I took the average of what everyone has told me an what I have read...the prime temp for a still air is 101...egg will be at an average of 99.5...and if you listen to people about humidity it is all over the place. I have heard from 0 to 50....I have mine at 35 percent. I only have 8 eggs...
