    Exploded Rotten Egg

Sorry, very bad explaining on my part. Silkie was sitting on two silkie eggs. I had three guinea eggs in incubator. Two guinea's hatched and I decided to let her raise them (because her eggs were due to hatch and that would give the guinea's a mother). One hour later an egg exploded and...

    Exploded Rotten Egg

You Got That One Right!!!! Wow. Poor Silkie couldn't stand herself. The sad news is that it killed her two, just hatched chicks... The good news is, she now smells good and has one healthy chick. I NEVER want that to happen again, so I will much more watchful.

    Exploded Rotten Egg

Thank you... I gave the hen a bath and you were right. She took the little chick in the evening, and of course the chick was very happy to have a mom. This morning she was very protective of her new one and she is teaching it to eat. Thanks for all your help.

    silkie hatching guinea

Good Good News!!! Had to finally help hatch the chicks and they are very healthy. Seem to be very strong and began pecking for food after one hour. Don't know what happened but they were very large chicks in a small egg. Thank everyone for your help. I have one more to go, wish me luck.

    silkie hatching guinea

Okay, I just checked the website, I then went to check the eggs again. They have pipped all the way through. They are cheeping so loudly, guess they really want out. How long should it take from here so I will know when to worry? Thank you.

    silkie hatching guinea

Sorry... learning the terms I need to know. By cracked I mean the chick has pecked a hole out and you can see the chick. I have raised dominic's and once they actually start pecking they are out much sooner than this guinea. I hope I am successful. Thank you.

    hen pecking egg's shell

What would cause a sitting hen to start removing the shell from her unhatched eggs? I have had to remove them from her to try to save their lives. By the way... I am so thankful I found this website.

    Unfit mother

I have a hen that has been sitting on eggs for the first time and after hatching her first chick she tried to kill it. I removed it and waited for next egg to hatch and she did the same thing. What would make her not want her chicks after all that hard work?

    chick hatched with growth... help

The sac is between the butt and belly. I think your correct about being the yolk sac... that makes sense to me. Can I leave her under the mom or should I talk her out and put her under a lamp? I really appreciate the help, I am a new member but you will probably be hearing from me often.
