    Breda Fowl thread

Thank you! That hen is stunning; I love all the white on her. And come to think of it, a white Breda would be beautiful! Somebody should get on that.

    Breda Fowl thread

They're just about 7 months old. I'm so pleased with how they are turning out; they were so lanky and wonky for awhile. I had 4 males at first, 2 really nice ones that I planned on keeping, and 2 backups. Unfortunately, I lost both of the nice males from some unknown predator. I think...

    Hen loosing her balance.

What do you mean by losing her balance? Can she walk at all or is she stumbling? Is she still eating and drinking?

    Rhode Island red...weird behavior

Has she eaten anything that could have gotten stuck and isn't passing? What do you mean by "green skinny wire?" Photos would help greatly in this situation if you can get them.

Help! What’s wrong with my chicken

It looks like she has a simple respiratory infection. Good job keeping her separate from the others. I would continue what you are doing, but make sure she has plenty of vitamins and minerals in her water. I give my birds a powdered blend that is made for kids. Also, if you can, give her plenty...

    Severe neck wound

Not sure about ingrown feathers (ouch!) but most of the time only the tail feathers and feathers on feet are prone to bleeding.

    Severe neck wound

I've got a hen in my living room right now that's recovering from a severe gash to the abdomen. It has been almost two weeks now and she is looking fantastic. Keep her in a warm quiet place and make sure she's eating and drinking. I put a vitamin and mineral powder blend in my hen's water, and...

Does anyone know where I can find the entry form? It doesn't look like the PPBA's website has been updated, but I did manage to find this. https://www.poultryshowcentral.com/support-files/ppbafeb2018document.pdf

    Rooster fighting chicken!! Help!

She looks very female to me. I've had quite a few snarky Silkie girls. Haha! They seem to always be on opposite ends of the spectrum: quiet and submissive, or bossy.

    Chicken not walking properly

I've had hens go partially broody. They act the part, but they don't quite commit enough to actually sit. That could be what your hen is doing, but I would definitely keep checking for possible illnesses though.

    Rooster fighting chicken!! Help!

I think Fern is a female due to her body shape. At 7 months old there are usually a few tell-tale signs that they are a rooster, although Silkies are notorious for keeping you guessing. I've had this happen a few times between males and female Silkies in my flock. It is likely that Fern is very...

    Chicken not walking properly

How is she carrying her wings? Are they limp and hanging down, or is she carrying them outward to her sides?

chicken lice, best natural product ?

Yes, D.E. absolutely works. I have tried numerous products over the years (permethrin, spinosad, sevin) on both lice and mites and nothing has worked as well as D.E. has. I actually believe spinosad, despite being called safe and natural, caused a type of skin cancer in my birds; it was not fun...

    Injured claw! What to do?

Fortunately, that seems very minor. As long as it's no longer bleeding he should be totally fine. :thumbsup One of my hens yanked her toenail off completely and she's just fine.
