I have a 14 wk old Americauna pullet that yesterday was a little puffed up and not as active as normal (I didn't notice this, my dad did), today she is not using her left leg, and not opening her left eye. I have her inside in a box and she's content. When the box moves she moves her head...
I need some help identifying this guy. He is about 13-15 weeks old. He's farther behind in development than chicks that are the same age, tall and lanky (today it's cold and he's hunched up), has very green legs, straight comb, no yellow on the bottom of the foot. When I bought him as a chick...
I'm starting a new flock (I just moved from Colorado to Texas) and am starting over with chickens, I didn't have room to move my flock. As such I am also building a new coop, which I have planned out. I want to use water nipples instead of a can waterer. I'm interested in seeing what other...
I have a chick that hatched this morning (or during the night) and it is still pretty listless. When I found it at about 9 am it was barely moving and cold. All of the hens other eggs hatched last weekend and she has no interest in this new chick so it's inside. If I pick it up and lay it on its...
I have two broody hens, White Pearl Leghorns. One keeps getting off her nest and getting back on the wrong egg/nest, so I took the egg and put it under the other hen. I know its crazy to hear about Leghorns being broody, but they are....they haven't laid eggs since they started this, about 4...
He crowed for the first time yesterday morning and the did it twice more just to be sure....funny little crow. All the others his age stopped what they were doing, popped up their heads and just froze, as if to say, "Now where do you suppose that came from"
Here he is....Tim is his name and...
I have a 1 year old silkie hen that I got a little over a month ago. She has be intergrated into my flock for a while now and still she hasn't laid an egg. Any ideas?
I also have a rooster that I got at the same time, also silkie and same age, he doesn't seem to completely understand...
I'm told she may be an australorp, can the sheen be purple on an australorp? All I've seen in the descriptions are green sheen, but hers is purple. It's hard to see in the pic though second pic is better, 7 weeks old. If not an australorp then what?
I have 5 bantum brahma chicks. Yesterday they all had a lot of poop build up on their bottoms. I gave them baths and brought them inside so I could watch them closer (they were in the shop). Today 1 of them had a lot of poop built up on her bottoms again, so another bath. My question is why...
So today the little 5 week old chicks moved from the seperate day-time / night-time quarters into their own little coop and run, inside the big girls run. We'll see how their first night goes. I had to go out and make them go inside tonight, poor little things. I think I scared the peewaddles...
Just wondering what may be the cause here, in this pic you can see that this hen's eyes are different colors. One is the normal color with a round pupil (on the left) and one is green with a slit like a reptile for a pupil (on right). Any thoughts? My only guess is that it's an old injury...
I have 15 hens, 10 white leghorns and 5 red stars (also have 9 chicks). Every day I get 14-15 eggs, normally 10 are white and 4-5 are brown. On a rare occasion I only get 9 white. Anyway, yesterday I got 6 brown and 10 white. On Tuesday there were 15 eggs, so I know I didn't miss one the day...
I have just started keeping chickens and am enjoying it so far. I have 10 pearl white leghorns and 5 red stars that are laying, and I have 5 arucana chicks that should start laying in July or August. I live in western Colorado and love living in the mountains. I am worried about "winterizing"...
