Yeah, I know...that's what I keep hearing. I obviously don't disbelieve-so many chicken owners say the same thing. It's just that we really don't have that issue at all! It's strange...I think I am half-disappointed or something. I mean I planned on keeping them anyhow because of how proficient...
You know, my leghorns were wild when they were young, but are totally docile now. I have four. They are California Whites...does this make a difference? In all honesty they are far more easy going than my Barred Rocks!
I have one male german shepard- age 1, one brindle staffordshire terrier (pit bull)- age 2, and one bichon frise-age older than rocks. Every one of them were rescued dogs.
Our local Odwalla company gives us recently expired Odwalla Super Protein food bars. We just open up a package and put a full bar in the run with them. They peck at it until it's gone. They love them!
I know you can get them wherever you can buy organic garden supplies. I'd have to buy them through a catalog here. Unfortunately we have no local organic suppliers.
I have four kids, and I can tell you that motherhood is a double edged sword. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my kids more than toast, but my life has been infinitely more complicated because of being a mom. It's a constant uphill struggle and a constant drain on every resource I have, money, time...
Green? Wow! I didn't know they could have green eyes! No, all mine have yellow eyes...every single one, just different shades of yellow. Some darker...the Ameraucanas have near brown.
Yeah, our chickens get very excited when my husband goes near the coop. He SWEARS he doesn't like them, but I...
We made a feeder with a large plastic lawn tub (the kind with the rope handles) that we cut slits in the bottom and 2 snow disks (one on the top of the tub and one below). It leaves just a little 3 1/2 inch space between the edge of the snow disk on the bottom and the plastic tub. They can't...
Until I got my hens into the pen they would ALL go into the trees. Especially near dusk. We used to have to shake the tree to get them down and put them back in the hen house! We now have a fully enclosed run for them. Chasing them out of the trees every night was no fun!
Funny enough too, the Barred Rocks are the more shy of the bunch. Everyone had said my Leghorns would be skittish and fly all over in a panic when we got near, but for the most part they're pretty calm. The Barred Rocks don't panic, but they don't like being touched.
Our friendliest are the...
YAY!
Hi guys, it's been a very long time since I last posted. Mainly because school has been ripping me up. I am trying to get my nursing RN and raise my four kids at the same time...so basically I'm lucky to have time to breathe. I'm so tired I could cry...*sigh*
ANYHOW, I'm doing the happy...
I'd have to agree with Llysse on that. I think it would definitely get too hot in there. As far as being too cold, I suppose it would depend on where you live.
I think it would fit them, I just don't think it would be very comfy.
You could try to get a free doghouse on http://craigslist.org/ ...

That's good advice. Unfortunately, right now I really don't have the room to plant in ground. We are thinking of dismantling our above ground pool however and if we do, we'd have plenty of room there.
If we do, I'll definitely try again.

LOL!! We love it. Yurts are really cool too, if we ever move from this area, we're thinking of getting one of those too.
The only thing about the dome is, you really can't get away from the fact you need to put up this bubble wrappy kind of insulation in it. Otherwise, very similarly...
