Mine are out everyday. Right now their pen is wrapped on the sides to protect them some from wind. The pen door is open, but they don't like walking on the snow, so they stay pretty close.
Lol. I thought you were going to say time to prep dinner. I have them around also, but they never come in the yard. Thy only watch from the other side of the fence. Interesting to see if they will roost in your yard now.
Had to put the light on in the coop for a few hours in the morning. 16 girls and NO eggs for two weeks, and even before was just one a day. I let them rest all of October since I had a stash of eggs. Thank goodness I haven't been handing them out so much lately. So after about 8 days with a...
Was good most of the summer. Only lost two others this year, one late winter and another in early August while I was away. My brother was staying over and let them out late in the afternoon. He found my sweet black silkie torn apart. He was so upset. Then my big Roo Dr. Evil was about two weeks...
Very cute Gail. Wish I could have made it. I need some nice Black Copper Marans eggs to hatch or chicks. I lost that nice Roo (nice looking but he was still mean) to a hawk in August. But I did hatch out one lonely chick from him in May, a Roo whom I kept. And then I just lost him also a couple...
I know some of the other NJ posters were talking about. Trying to do something like that. Give them a few days to check in I'm sure some will be interested.
I think having people bring poultry to your yard is a big mistake. I'd be more inclined to meet up in a neutral location, that way nothing is left behind in my yard, just in case. Just my opinion. You also shouldn't have anyone walk into your yard without spraying shoe bottoms with Tek-Trol or...
These were from today. 11 from 14 girls. I hope that means they are feeling good. Just received my Virkon S disinfectant to clean everything I can to keep the viral load down. Now if it would just warm up above freezing so I can get some water.
Yes. At the peak it was two a day. I'd walk out at night and find some flopped over some dead. All my losses were the marans, not the mixed I hatched or my existing flock. Then after the diagnosis, and nursing so many still in isolation, I decided to cull all that showed active symptoms that I...
FBCM- French Black Copper Marans. I had about 30 and down to four. So sad. My one girl lays a nice egg and it's hers I'd like to hatch. You can see it in this pic.
Yes it has. My boys are growing and I finally have some time for me. I had just taken delivery of my second coop & run when I got the diagnosis. My plans were to sell FBCM chicks and fertile eggs.
