Greetings and salutations Fellow Chicken Wranglers,
Here in Central Florida, my Wife and I have Rhode Island Reds and Americanas that have bred and hatched chicks. The chicks are now laying eggs, mostly green and shades of red to light pink. Our green eggs have been double yolkers and because...
Has anyone tried to get their chickens in movies or commercials? Perhaps as just extras or topic of a commercial? We have chickens that my Wife has sung to ever since they were just chicks. They will do practically anything we tell them to do... you know, short of reciting the Gettysburg Address...
Maybe it's the breed...I had barred rock roosters that attacked everything and practically carried switch blades, brass knuckles and had tattoos. But we have an Americana rooster now that is just as big as the rocks were but has an excellent disposition. He is very protective of his hens and his...
I have a hen with prolapse, is it safe to eat her? I had a hen with prolapse last fall and we tried to help her but she died anyway. I didn't want to loose out on the meat this time. Any suggestions or advise?
We recently hatched 18 chicks and now that they are growing (about 6 weeks old now) some of the young roosters are being very aggressive and causing wounds on the other roosters. Any suggestions on what we should do? or do we just let nature take its course and let the dominant ones rise to the...
Greetings Fellow West Orange County dweller, good to see more locals here on this site. I've been reading allot of threads from folks up north in the cold country and thought, gee, I know we raise chickens in central Florida too. I knew I wasn't alone. We're raising Americana reds here in Apopka.
Greetings All,
New chicks ( Americana-reds) hatched on Christmas day are all doing well. We let Mama hen do all the work, she hatched them, kept them in the coop for 2 days then she brought them out in the yard. All the other hens and our rooster take part in watching the chicks and they have...
Most Amazing Chicken Story of 2012
My wife and I recently had one of our hens hatch 18 chicks on Christmas day. Two days later, Mama hen had taken the biddies out of the coop and down to the chicken yard. My Wife had gone out to tend to the chickens and noticed they were all in the yard so she...
I have a flock of Rhode Island Reds and an Americana rooster. I just had one of my hens hatch 18 chicks and my question is, can my Americana rooster breed with the new chicks once their grown or can a rooster from that group breed with a hen from the same group, or... do I need a new rooster?
My reds have been laying eggs for some time now and I have one broody sitting on about 20 eggs that should start hatching anytime now. I'm curious to see how they do in our Central Florida winter.
