I'm building a little shed for my ducks to live in, roughly 8x8. The floor will be wood framed and raised up off the ground a little bit. I'm not sure what to use for the floor. I want something I can easily hose out, it needs to be water proof. I thought about ceramic tile but I think the grout...
I have a female duck that is about 10 months old. Not sure what kind she is, some kind of mix. For the last few weeks every time I pick her up something starts dripping from her vent. Looks almost like poop...but not quite. She's always been pretty good about being held, very calm. Why is this...
I have a female duck that's about 10 months old. I just noticed she was bleeding a little bit from the top of her bill, and there is a little crack maybe 1/8 inch long. I don't know what happened. Is there anything else I should do for her besides trying to keep it clean? It doesn't seem to...
LOL...that's what I thought when I first started finding 3. Last night I cleaned out their house though and put all new straw in. It's weird that they are all in one place too, normally they are all over the place.
I've got 2 ducks about 7 months old - a magpie and a runner mix. Both have been steadily laying eggs all winter - they take a day or two off here and there, but most mornings I find at least 1 egg. About a month ago I started finding 3 eggs every few days, and now, I just found FOUR! They all...
I have 2 female ducks about 7 months old. Recently when I try to pet them they have been vibrating their head and neck and then hitting my hand with their head as hard as they can. They will do it over and over if I let them. What the heck are they doing? This is really odd especially for one of...
Alright, now she's refusing to take her medicine. I've got liquid antibiotics in a dropper, but she's got her bill clamped down tight. Any idea how I can get it in her? Can I pry open her bill without hurting her?
Well, we got her to the vet this morning. Xray showed no eggs, they think maybe she has some kind of infection. They gave us some antibiotics and said to keep her warm for about a week. I've got a little pen set up for both of them in the garage. She's already acting a lot better today...
I might try to put some oil on her, though I don't know what I'm doing and I don't want to hurt her. Right now I'm just keeping her in a dog crate in the house to keep warm, she seems calm and is laying down. My poor other duck doesn't know what to do without her buddy. :(
Thanks for the help...
Thanks for the info. I think she has an egg stuck, I do feel a hard round spot on her bottom. She was acting well this morning but she's not looking good now. I'm waiting for an emergency vet to call me back right now, apparently duck vets are not easy to find...especially on friday night.
I...
I have a female runner mix that is about 7 months old. This morning when she was let out of her house she was acting very lethargic, and didn't make a bunch of noise like she normally does. She just kinda walked around slowly, and wouldn't eat any treats.
I put her back in her house for a...
I have 2 ducks (magpie and a runner mix) that are about 6 months old. I am still very confused about what sex they are. I was told both were females when I got them. Somebody is laying eggs in my yard, but I don't know who. Only getting 1 egg, not 2.
The runner mix quacks all the time, very...
My 2 ducks make an enourmous mess of my back yard, I can't imagine having them in the house. Change the diaper every 4 hours? I would think you would have to change it more often than that, a duck will poop like a hundred times in 4 hours...
I have a crested magpie and like the others have said she's much more calm than my runner mix. When I come up to her she stops and squats down and lets me pet her, instead of running away like her buddy. She doesn't even quack unless something is really wrong. I'm not sure who's laying eggs in...
Setting up a new house for my 2 ducks, not sure what I want to do with the food and water. Seems like I read somewhere that they don't need it at night but I can't find that again. I would like to leave it out if I can, just makes a bigger mess. Do they need food and water during the night?
So, my ducks are about 5 months old now - I was told they were both girls, but I'm starting to think otherwise. Lucy, the black magpie, doesn't like to quack, unless (s)he is really bothered by something. Her buddy the runner mix makes all the noise. I listened to some quacks online, and the...
I always put some frozen peas in the microwave for my ducks, they know the sound of the microwave door slamming now and come running. I always made a habbit of picking them up and holding them every day even when they didn't like it, and they seem more tame than they used to be. They aren't...
