    Campine Chicken thread?

just saying hello and happy new year -- my main flock is still recovering from a late molt this year, so no pictures -- but i also have an extra pair of young silver campines, in case anyone here is in northern CA and interested? i will get pictures once this crazy rain lets up! laura

Olive Egger - Isbar x BCM

I'm in Sonoma County (CA) and have hens laying eggs with this cross, but they are not hatching well -- sorry i can't help!

    Silverudd's Blue

I figure, i'm the one who moved into the bobcat's home range, rather than the other way around -- so i can spare a chicken now and then, if i'm too careless to keep my eyes on everyone. keeps me on my toes. and it's handy to have scavengers around for when a chicken passes away from other...

    Silverudd's Blue

thanks -- the bobcat is just part of life here (plenty of other predators around, too) -- thankfully is a beautiful thing to have come visit occasionally (this picture was taken out my bedroom door, a year ago): and confirmed that it can NOT get into the chickens' pens -- i've literally seen...

    Silverudd's Blue

nothing super-recent -- there's a resident bobcat near my home, & none of the chickens have been out of their pens for over a month -- but getting the tall grass near their pens cut today, so fewer hiding places for the feline! and here's one from over winter: i actually have four SB...

    Silverudd's Blue

just saying hello to SB folks -- i've been more actively lately on FB, not so much here, but hoping to be a bit more regular this summer. love my SBs!

    Chicken Breed Focus - Campine

catching up months later to respond to this (old) post: my rooster actually has barring on his tail feathers, although it's not as complete/regular-looking as the bird in the above photo. but they are not entirely black.

    Campine Chicken thread?

just saying hello to all you campine folks -- i haven't been on BYC much at all this spring, but my small flock of silver campines is still doing well -- very regular layers, and i swear every egg that is incubated hatches successfully. haven't done any concerted breeding (have been focusing on...

    California - Northern

hi Deann! and everyone else! similarly not on BYC much these days, but have slowly established a relatively solid flock of isbars, and one pen full of silver campines -- i also still have some marans hens (although no longer the rooster, he became aggressive last year & was too huge to...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Campine

love these old images -- my flock so far definitely has much too high/fan-like tails. and i do not have enough space to produce enough chicks to be a full-on breeder, but will definitely keep my small flock going, with an eye for improvement!

    Chicken Breed Focus - Campine

hello thread -- I'm not on BYC very much these days, but i've similarly had a group of silver campines for the past few years -- they always seem more like regular birds to me than most chicken breeds: they're a bit wild and suspicious, they fly FAR more (and much farther!) than any of my other...

    Campine Chicken thread?

and, here's a little video of them out and about: my rooster doesn't have any long tail feathers at this point, not sure why -- he really blends in with the girls!

    Campine Chicken thread?

took a photo of my little flock (9 pullets/hens, one rooster) of silver campines yesterday -- they were happy for a brief break in our rain!

Olive Egger - Isbar x BCM

yes! here's a photo i just took: campine on the left, then pure isbar, then 3/4-isbar-1/4-marans in center, then my 1/2-isbar-1/2-marans cross, then pure marans on the right. the camera's coloring is a little bit too warm due to the lighting, but that's pretty close.

    Isbar thread

excellent news! took a photo yesterday of my best-looking cockerel (of four, more than i need, but...) and his two girlfriends -- looking forward to hatching eggs from this trio this spring!

Olive Egger - Isbar x BCM

i actually already posted pictures of my only current isbar/marans cross (the blue girl on the previous page) -- the others i have are her offspring, three pullets (two blacks, one blue), all fathered by a pure isbar -- so they are 3/4 isbar 1/4 marans. i can take photos if you're interested...
