    Need suggestions for temporary coop!

Hello! We are about to get started building a coop for our second flock of chickens. :) I planned on getting 6, made it 8 "in case we lose a couple," and roger now there are 11 in the Rubbermaid in my living room, lol! We will build a pretty substantial coop at some point, but here's the thing...

    My first egg!

Oh, thank goodness I'm not the only "pathetic" one! We're up to egg # 2 now. I do need to think of something "fun" to do with these . . .it's like framing your first dollar bill! They would make awfully perfect "crack-open"(i.e. sunny side up) eggs for my 2 and 5 yos breakfasts!!!

    My first egg!

Oh, I can't believe I can't find the camera!!! I actually squealed, I was so excited. My 9 yo had come in to tell me one of the chickens was in the nesting box this morning, so I went out to look about an hour ago, and lo and behold . . .one perfect looking, little brown egg! It's so...

I have a question! (Trying again!)

We got them the first week of April. When I posted here, someone said they were only a few days old. So they should be around 17-18 weeks, I think. They are New Hampshire Reds, and if I had my digital camera I'd love to post some pics! Sorry!

I have a question! (Trying again!)

My kids won chicks at the county fair back in April, so I'm thinking mine are around 18 weeks-ish. We've got a fine looking coop which was supposed to be a tractor *but* is immoveable thanks to the lovely heavy lumber my darling husband used to build it, LOL. They are friendly and fat, and...

    Coop design

:cool:Oh, my goodness! It turned out SO cute! As you can see in my post elsewhere, yours is the coop we liked best and sortof-copied! We're planning on staining our cedar rather than painting it, if we ever get around to it. Thanks for the inspiration! I'll bet your chicks love it!

Our coop is almost done! Pics

I definitely don't mind suggestions! We are actually in Jacksonville, Florida. So COLD is not an issue, but HOT is! We left the opening in the roof area so we'd have ventilation. I'm hoping that will be adequate and thinking we won't need fans since they'll only be up there in the evenings...

Our coop is almost done! Pics

We compared a zillion coop pictures, bought three books, and finally ended up sort-of-copying one we saw here! I'm so proud of my husband and sons' work, I had to put it out there for you to see! We're still going to cut windows on each end (I think he may even make them heart-shaped, just...

    So, if I build a 4x10' chicken tractor, add eight pullets . . .

That's great! And you said you have them in there most of the time, right? I was confused as to whether we still needed a real HOUSE--a totally enclosed coop, I mean--or whether the tractor's nesting boxes and roosting areas would be adequate? Also, any idea how much you spent? Thanks so much!

    So, if I build a 4x10' chicken tractor, add eight pullets . . .

This was very helpful! And we actually were looking at building a coop very similar to the one you built. Did you keep any sort of materials list? How long have you had your chickens in this coop? It looks like all one would really have to clean with a tractor like yours is the nest area; is...

    So, if I build a 4x10' chicken tractor, add eight pullets . . .

Mmmm, you all are worrying me! Do I not want to know the answer to this question???

    So, if I build a 4x10' chicken tractor, add eight pullets . . .

put it out in my yard and move it daily, will I basically just wind up with bare patches wherever it's been? We still have the babies in their box but I need to build something soon. I liked the chicken tractor idea but after reading the book, I'm *more* confused. Somehow, I was picturing the...

Do you mind helping me determine age of these chicks?!

Oh, my goodness! Well, I'd moved them onto the back porch in their box with the heat lamp because they were making my house smell like a chicken coop, LOL--should I move them back inside?? It's about 75 degrees out . . . That's the youngest-looking, but even the older looking ones don't look...

Do you mind helping me determine age of these chicks?!

Sorry; I know you all get this a lot! These are the chicks we won at the fair last week, and I *thought* the man said they were 3 or 4 weeks old. What do you think? Thanks so much! Misty

New here and need some advice! Link to pics inside

My children won 8 chicks at the county fair, LOL. I've always wanted layers anyway, so we're excited! The chicks are about 3/4 weeks old and seem to be doing well, but I do have a couple of questions . . . a) the waterer keeps getting filled with pine shavings! Any way to prevent this? b) I...
