She appears to be doing well. I tried to return her to the rest of the hens but they went after her. I am giving her amoxicillian twice a day. She scabbing up, I did notice puss at one part of the wound.
I understand that harvesting a chicken by a certain age is idea, but what if I wanted to keep a flock of chickens year round and harvest them a few at a time during the year that might be 6 months to a year old, would the taste/quality be that much different for the worse than if I harvested...
Got home and cut some feathers away from wound and washed out the wound. Tonight I am going to try and get some of the dead skin and black off her. She is drinking a lot of water. I added some electrolytes and aspirin. She is eating milk softened oats and Cheerios. She does seem to be...
When I cleaned her this morning for the first time I noticed a smell, but not overwhelming. Can I get antibiotics from a vet, "over the counter"?
On a positive note, she is moving around more and eating and drinking.
Thanks,
Bryan
She seems to be doing ok... This happened Saturday night and she was able to get out and in of the coop sunday. She has been able to walk around the yard before my son noticed the blood. I did not notice it after the attack. It was still dark when I think I scared the coon away and when I...

I have dead hen that a predator got last night. I woke up early and heard it happening and scared it off, but not before the bird was killed and its head... well eaten off. The rest of the body is fine and looks pretty good. It was partially froozen when I found him when the sun came up...
Hello,
I searched for answer but I could not find anything that really answered by question. I harvested a five month old rooster today and would like to use it for soup tomorrow. Would it be better to not use this one and take one out the freezer? If I can use it would it be better to boil...
Hello,
I am interested in raising meat birds in the fall and harvest around Thanksgiving. Any concerns I should have? I live in NY. It should not be too bad weather wise? Would Red Rangers be better than Cornish X Rocks?
Thanks,
Bryan
Good job I just did my second and third this morning. There is no easy way to clean the out the insides, but reach in and scoop. I used a spoon to scrape anything left inside.
Second and third time this morning. Picking the feathers was a little easier this time. I think they are nice looking birds. 7.4 and 7.6 each. they were Delaware/RIR crosses.
