Does anyone know if this is cause for concern, other than grossing me out. I was frying up some eggs and one normal looking egg when cracked open revealed lots of blood in the whites.
All I could find was the suggestion that is was an embryo, but we have no Rooster.
Chicken presumably attacked by hawk? I have cleaned bloody wound and applied neosporin. We cut feathers that were attached to wounded area. Her wing is hanging low, but she let us handle her wing and spread it out without reacting.
If her wing is broken, do we need to do anything other than...
I first noticed it this morning while she was free ranging. No signs of distress or struggle, her best chicken friend was staying close by. After I returned home after being out all day, the sound seems more frequent, happening with each breath in and each breath out. I just gave them some...
Hello, My two year old Auracauna has been making a weird sound. With every breath she makes a sort of crying mooing sound. I have never heard any of my girls make this sound before. I am concerned. Any thoughts ??
My 8 month Cuckoo Maran died about ten days ago. I sent her off to be tested, and it was confirmed that she had Marek's. From what I read it usually affects young chicks... Would this be a case of long incubation of the disease, or a recent exposure from wild birds?
She was one of three...
Thanks everyone... Genevieve did die.... heartbreaking...
Thanks especially for the info on having the bird tested! I will ship her out in the morning, she is in the fridge.
Now she has no balance... I'm holding her so she does not flop around.... giving her water droplets.... her head is thrown back.... one leg outstretched, one clenched tight....
Any chance she will make it ???
I have posted a couple of times, now I believe she is dying... while I was giving her droppers of water and sick hen mash, she started ? convulsing... one foot out straight, another clenched tight... head way back, beak skyward.... wings fluttering, neck feathers shaking... Now she is on her...
Betty looks like she going to walk into the oven for dinner! So funny looking....
Is it normal for there to be tiny dots of blood where the new pin feathers are emerging?
OK... I'll look down her throat... but what am I looking for ?
I got her and another at Ranch Hag Hens in Petaluma... my first batch of girls at Penngrove Hay and Feed...
Prior to the messy rear and not eating no symptoms, but since sleeps alot and not on her perch or roost
So got up the nerve to stick my finger in her vent to check for shell fragments.... did not feel any.. wondering if I went deep enough ( past my first knuckle, maybe an inch and a half ?? ) So if that was done correctly, no internal broken egg.
I recall her crop being very full at the onset...
She is one of three hens, they share a large coop, with wood shavings, and run with dirt, where I occasionally dust with DE or ag. lime... a constant supply of crumble and water, oyster shell, they free range for a varied amount of time every day, and get healthy leftover table scraps, and a...
The gurgle is only when I am force feeding her water and ACV or yogurt mash.... there is no labored breathing, no gook or snot, no sneezing, her eyes are clear and bright .... Am I wrong in thinking that there would be some sort of cold symptom too if it were a lung or sinus thing ??
Cammy, Thanks ... I posted a new topic... she hasn't changed... I've been feeding her with a dropper yogurt and ACV dilluted, she seems to appreciate it..... I heard a slight gurgling sound when I did this, she won't eat on her own... keeping her in the house
