Help - Favorite Rooster Sick - Marek's?? Botulism??

Just updating again in case it helps someone. I put him back in the coop a few days after I returned. He seemed a little wobbly on his legs for about another week or so. I continued to alternate poly-vi-sol and colloidal silver in the water and he is completely fine now. He is back to normal! I...

The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Here's the good news update!!! I had to leave town from Friday morning to Saturday night and debated on either leaving him in the house or leaving him outside in our "grow out" pen. I was hesitant on outside because the temps were going to dip but finally decided that he would be better off...

Help - Favorite Rooster Sick - Marek's?? Botulism??

Update on today... Still can't stand at all or walk and if he tries to move, he pushes forward and almost does somersaults, but I think I am seeing some improvement! He likes to move forward when he poops (still solid as of yesterday) and that's what messes him all up, but after a few tries...

Help - Favorite Rooster Sick - Marek's?? Botulism??

So, the day before yesterday, when I went out to feed, I noticed my beautiful big blue cochin "Monsoon" sitting and then when he tried to stand, he couldn't walk a straight line - like drunk. He could get to where he wanted to but not without zigzagging or falling. The past couple days I have...

Help - Mystery Illness - Lost 2 ducks within a month of each other - heartbroken...

So I went out this morning, half expecting to see Ping in a worse state or dead, but surprisingly she is doing much better! Without knowing what was going on, I made the decision 2 days ago to put 10ppm Colloidal Silver in all their water dishes. Some dishes had 1 T. per gallon, but most water...

Help - Mystery Illness - Lost 2 ducks within a month of each other - heartbroken...

Hmmm... just looked up some more info and found: In Waterfowl: Clostridium botulinum producing botulinum toxin Type C, a neuroparalytic agent is the usual cause of botulism - I am thinking that is very possible as you mentioned Amiga... They can get it from maggots - we have had a lot of flies...

Help - Mystery Illness - Lost 2 ducks within a month of each other - heartbroken...

Well, it looks like my Jumbo Pekin, Ping, is now showing symptoms. While the other 2 were several weeks apart, she is showing symptoms soon after I just lost my special pet. She is not being very vocal, laying down more than usual, ruffled her neck feathers a bit and sometimes "yawns" or "gags"...

Help - Mystery Illness - Lost 2 ducks within a month of each other - heartbroken...

Approximately 4 weeks ago, when I went out to feed, one of our runners was acting strange. He seemed a bit lethargic and wasn't at all interested in the greens I was giving to the rest of the flock. My ducks all love greens and will usually "attack" me for them. He didn't seem interested at all...

The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

I have ducks and have had multiple ages of chickens as well (including some silkies and roosters). I have always fed all of them a grower feed. I've never used a layer feed at all. I just supply oyster shell free-choice in a little bowl. They know when and how much calcium they need. When I have...

    Arizona Chickens

X2 - I think they are wonderfully made! Here's a few of my girls wearing some of her saddles... It seems my girls get their wings messed up more than their backs, so I get the ones with wing guards more often now. In this photo, they are miffed at me for not letting them out until I took a pic.
