Thanks. I put her in a very deeply bedded brooder in my garage. It's 2'x4' so she can't fly around everywhere.
I hate pulling her from the group, but I have a chicken tractor, so not enough space to put her in a crate with them, and I saw a chicken hawk circling her while they all were in the...
My hen has been walking with a limp for a couple of days. When she stands she puts all of her weight on one leg. I expected bumble foot, but I caught her and her feet look like this
It doesn't feel warm like its infected, and doesn't look like bumble foot to me, but I'm not 100% on what I'm...
My wife decided to do a painting of Randy the rooster for our dining room. Here is what she came up with.
I think she did a good job. Here is the modeling photo.
Yesterday I noticed one of my Marans isn't keeping up with the rest of the girls. She is walking with a limp, and when she stands still she stands on one leg. She's still spunky and eating well. I didn't see anything wrong, but I couldn't catch her to look at the bottom of her feet.
Any ideas...
I've got 3 Easter eggers and 2 buff Orpingtons. They're 5 months old and just started laying a couple weeks ago. They're friendly and free range in my yard. Don't want to sell, but they're getting into the neighbors flower beds :(
Asking $5 apiece or I'll make a deal on all. Please help me...
My Wheaten Maran rooster, Randy, crowed for the first time a couple of days ago. It's not the typical crow yet, it sounds like he's playing a kazoo. Here is a fun, short video of his voice cracking.
So I was working in my garage, and I turn around to see this guy staring me in the face.
I'm not sure where he came from, he's not mine and not the neighbors. I had to chase him away 3 times, he was trying to get in the pen with my birds. I finally let out my beagles and they scared him into...
So my 4 Marans are 9-10 weeks old (don't really remember) and they're finally moving outside in the tractor. It will be mid 20s a couple nights this week, but will get to the mid to high 40s during the day.

Agreed, try to get her to eat and drink. Electrolyte may help as well, however, don't be surprised if she doesn't make it. Sorry to be the barer of bad news.
They'll eat what they need, and they need a lot. don't ration food for chickens.
To give you an idea, I have 5 chicks that are a little over a week old, and they eat/spill about 1quart of food per day.
Yes you can eat pullets, but roosters are cheaper, grow bigger faster, and you'll be eating them long before they're old enough to do "roostery" things.
If you are buying a heritage breed only for meat, my vote is for Delaware, but there are many good options.
