Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know. I have eggs in the incubator right now, but I guess I can be pretty certain that I'll be getting fertilized eggs when they hatch. :)
Two days ago, I put my two remaining Buff Orpington hens in with a rooster. I want to hatch some eggs to bring my buff numbers up again. How long does it take for eggs to be fertile after the introduction of a rooster? I've seen him mounting both hens, but I know nothing about the internal...
I am setting 18 eggs: 11 golden campine and 7 bantam EEs. I am very curious about how the EEs will turn out, since one rooster in with the one hen is the only survivor of a nice brown red Ameraucana clutch of eggs (stupid post office) and the other roo is an EE with very pretty plumage. I'll be...
LOL Mutant bald eagle! I love it. I picked out two of the "white" chicks with a couple of colored feathers in their wings hoping I'd get something nice to look at and it looks as if I did. This one is keeping a golden campine pullet company while she grows a bit and the other is keeping an...
He's got greenish legs (they don't show really well in those photos) and a little comb, so I guessed EE. I'm open to other suggestions, though. The guy at the feed store just knew he was a "white banty."
Yay! That's fantastic! I was really worried that she was shaping up to be a he, but with all of the beautiful iridescent feathers on him and not on her, I was fairly sure I had a pair. Unfortunately, they were the only survivors of a bunch of Welsumer chicks . . . if I hatched some of her eggs...
The only thing I'm sure of is that it's an EE. It seems to be a rooster. When I bought it from the feed store (from Ideal stock, I think), it was supposed to be "a banty, two weeks old, I think." I don't think it's grown a single bit since it was supposed to be two weeks old--if so, it's tiny...
I am 100% certain that this is a rooster. He is a hatchery Welsumer. Am I right?
I am 90% certain that this is a pullet. She is also a hatchery Welsumer. Do I have a pair?
Okay, I wasn't able to get very good pics of the comb, since 1) I couldn't find my new batteries and 2) I was in a hurry because it was starting to rain. BUT I did get a really good pic of the OTHER white EE's comb and can see the contrast between the two of them. I have been 99% certain...
So by the rule of orange, would this EE be a roo or a pullet?
I can get better pics of the bird's comb tomorrow, now that I have a helper here. S/he is about 8 weeks old in those photos, I think, except for the last one. The last one was taken much earlier, maybe when it was 5...
Or vice versa? I have a bunch of regular-sized EEs, none of which appear to be roosters (although I'm pulling for one, who seems to want to be). Through a chain of events, I hatched out a single chick from a dozen bantam Ameraucana eggs (the real deal). If that chick turns out to be a rooster...
This afternoon I took another look at the bird I thought was a Welsumer rooster and I thought I saw some iridescent feathers forming on his rear/in his tail. At what point do roosters start to look like roosters? His wattles are even more pronounced and redder than they seem in that picture...

What is wrong with wanting to preserve the historical appearance of a breed? Schnauzers were developed to be ratters (Miniature, Standard), guard dogs (Standard, Giant) and herding dogs (Giant). With the exception of the herding purpose, cropping and docking have historical precedence...

At one point this was true. The UKC has since closed its APBT registration to non-litter-registered dogs, so dogs from other registries can't be registered as APBTs and I'm fairly sure that the AKC closed their stud book to UKC APBTs decades ago. They're pretty much different breeds now...

It's "moot" not "mute." (moot = being debatable or a point of little value; mute = without speech) Sorry, but I had to get that off my chest--I was an English major and am a writer/editor and that's one common error that drives me nuts--no reflection on you tnchickenut!
Anyway--APBTs...

If you are calling Dubbing, Docking and Cropping, "maiming" than would Implants, Reductions, Tattoos, Piercings, and any other Body Augmentations that people do to there self be the same.
People do far more, "maiming" things to there selves than what we do to other animals.
