    Duck's Bill "Growth"

A follow-up pic from earlier today. Although it's now nearly gone, our vet still isn't entirely sure what it was. However, the prescribed antibiotics are effectively addressing the issue. (Yay Dr. McDaniels!!)

    Duck's Bill "Growth"

Quack update: A close up pic after several days of treatment. As you can see, its gone down quite a bit. However... I'm now questioning what it is again. She'll be back to the vet next week for a check-in. Only time will tell if he has a different perspective as to what he's treating. More...

    Duck's Bill "Growth"

Sorry to all for the wait. The vet wasn't 100% certain on what caused the growth - other than it is indeed a growth and not something stuck to her bill. He said it was 'very likely bacterial' and attacked an internal layer in her bill with the growth a response to that infection. He further...

    Duck's Bill "Growth"

Thought about that as well. Their aviary is an extension of - not connected with a passthrough - the chicken house. There is chicken wire on some sides (We don't want Mr. Racoon stopping in for a late night visit!) and I'm wondering if that has something to do with the 'growths'. Maybe she...

    Duck's Bill "Growth"

Ya, I think that that's just lighting. She's doing great, splashing around in puddles today having fun in the rain. Just the odd 'growths'.

    Duck's Bill "Growth"

She was splashing about in a pool of water when I went to get her for a pic. The shiny around the nostril is just water.

    Duck's Bill "Growth"

Yes, shy of someone here knowing what that is on her beak and how best to address it, I believe that's my very next option. I have a good local vet.

    Duck's Bill "Growth"

Cayuga, I did indeed. I went so far as to use a vibrating toothbrush and soapy water to gently try to remove the growth - thinking at first it was simply something stuck to her. Unfortunately... No joy. I believe it's a growth.

    Duck's Bill "Growth"

Quack, one of my Buff Orpington ducks, has in the last month developed a growth of sorts on her bill. (See pic) After researching this forum and via Google, I'm still unsure as to what it is, why it formed or, most importantly, how to treat it. She exhibits no other symptoms with the growth...

    2 dead chickens...

Good to know! They don't have access to our compost pile (different fenced-in area), so I think for the most part I can rule that out. I'll be sure to keep them off the pile moving forward. I'm still wondering about the 4 yr old gopher poison. I can't wrap my head around it being in the soil...

    2 dead chickens...

Thx for the replies! Age: All are (would have been) 2 come March Wrt conditions, I've checked out the remaining 5 and all *appear* to be in good health; no obvious issues physically, no diarrhea, they charge me when I bring treats (like meal worms) so I think their appetites are pretty...

    2 dead chickens...

I'm a backyard chicken farmer. 2 dogs have the run of our backyard and, as such, we don't have a varmint issues. Also, there's a cat that roams the grounds - so no mouse/rat population to speak of (anymore). The occasional gopher will wander in, but not too often. My chickens free range...

Does anyone buy from Modesto Milling Organic Feed?

<BUMP> I find posts from 2010 and earlier but nothing leading me to believe there's a preponderance of MM buyers. Does anyone buy their feed? Reasons not to? Issues? Other? Are there better local brands/Mills? Hotspurious Walnut Creek, CA

Does anyone buy from Modesto Milling Organic Feed?

Primarily for you "Central-state" Californians out there - although perhaps some of you order out of state - do any of you order feed from Modesto Milling in Modesto, CA? Spoke with one of their reps earlier today. Seemed solid and knowledgable. Also, the prices look very competitive...

    Chicken Nipples: Enough Water?

Just dropped this in the run this afternoon: The ladies have taken to it without blinking. Having said this... They're still draining my nipple system. Perhaps I've acquired dromedary chickens? Hotspurious Walnut Creek, CA

    Um... Where or WHEN?

Is it just me or... Does anyone else feel as though Goldie Hawn might just pop out at any second and say something, well, completely stupid? Whats the dealio with the new motif, oh webmaster, my webmaster? ( "Look THAT up in your Funk and Wagnall's!" ) Hotspurious Walnut Creek, CA
