Intriguing....
I must admit i haven't figured out how to 'make a page' here on backyard chickens. I'd love it if you could send me an email with some tips. Thanks!

Thanks very much - I am a freelance illustrator/fine artist, so my talent is also my bread and butter. Lately that bread has been low cal and the butter more like jam. Sigh for the economy. I'd love to provide some beautiful chicken-work for my fellow poultry enthusiasts, so i hope a few folks...
Wow - all your hens look like mine - is that a buff orpington and an australorp in the background? If so, they look like my Belina and Soot.
The print is about 8x10 - would fit nicely in an oversized frame with an 8x10 mat. $50 including shipping within the USA. Thanks for your interest...
HI ALL
I wanted to post an image (with detail) of a print i recently did of my Wyandotte hen, Olive. I have prints available to sell if anyone would like to decorate their house with a beautiful Wyandotte, and will also consider inquiries to customize a portrait of your own favorite hen...
Any thoughts on the slimy little termite bugs? They seemed to be in cahoots with the beetles - hopefully just benign poo eaters. Always makes me nervous, though when the girls WON'T eat a bug - makes me think 'nasty'.
Hey guys - i have noticed some odd bugs.
I was looking at the ground behind my recently moved tractor where the poop had been lying from their roosting. The poop was textured a bit like a fire ant mound: loose and grainy. I poked at it, think it it might BE fire ants, but instead there were...
I have four hens (still pullets at 9 months?). All mixed breeds: buff orpington, australorp, chantecler (brown) and silver wyandotte. Yesterday our Australorp (#1) started chasing and attacking our orpington (#3) to the point i had to let her inside the house to escape. The attacked lady gets...
I fed my girls some leftover apple cider and cranberry sauce (wierd i know, but they've been stuck in their run in the rain and needed SOMEthing interesting to entertain them) and this morning fed them some red / purple cabbage.
ta da, dark torquoise poos. very blue green.
so i'm guessing it's...
Hey all.
My pullets are about 19 weeks old, one is about a month older though she's the same size as she was transitioned into the flock later. I've had them on callahan's' starter'grower ration since chickdom (it's a medicated feed at 18 0r 19% protein recommended to be used as a grower...
I have 4 four monthish old pullets. They're often dropping tail or wing feathers in their spurts of excited flapping about. Their coop also has a few body and long feathers scattered about every morning. Should I be worried that they're slow molters? they shouldn't molt until 7 months from now...
Hello all,
I had to swap a pullet for a cockeral and brought her home from a reputable guy who had lots of chickens. She seemed healthy and spry at his farm, but started sneezing in the car. We think maybe the A/C bothered her.
However, her stuffy nose has continued. Her face is less crusty...
Our silver wyandotte just turned 5 weeks on thursday - her comb and wattle are super pink, pinker than our other pullets (but they're other breeds: australorp, buff orp, chantecler), she had a massive growth spurt in like 4 days where she doubled in size and height, she acts kinda wierd...
No pictures sadly - was years ago on a computer far far away.... the duckling also liked to whip her bill back and forth rummaging in my dad's mustache for goodies. so cute.
Ha, yes i planned on involving a towel in this process - i used to have a duckling who loved to nestle up under our chins - and would occasionally leave us presents.
To keep my hens friendly, and to have a warm pet to snuggle with at night, I'd love to bring my hen in to sit in my lap in the evenings occasionally (i don't have chickens yet, still in planning stages). But I know they roost etc - would it disturb their internal clocks to be cuddling indoors...
