    New Magpie Thread!!!!

Quote: It definitely depends on the ducks, my one magpie was a horrible broody, my other 2 magpies were great broodies!! My girl even sat for a whole extra week and a half this year, and waited 4 days for all the eggs to hatch. which is amazing in my opinion because all my muscovies and...

Umm.. Has anyone else had wild mallards join their flock?

And yes, I have raised domestic raised migratory birds before other than mallards and I know the laws in my area. I will call a rehabilitator or someone to get her back into the wild if that's what it comes to! but my doors are open to her for now and I rather not stress her right now and let...

Umm.. Has anyone else had wild mallards join their flock?

I rescued a mallard duckling last year, she was only a few days old when she was found by some neighbors who did searched everywhere possible, but the mother was no where to be found nor was ever previously seen. She had an infected cut on her leg that I cleaned and took care of but it...

    Magpie Ducks

Hello LuvMyChicks and fowlman, They come in a few different colours, but other than black and blue the other colours are pretty rare. I think its a colour dilution gene, like in other breeds, that causes these other colours. Don't quote me on that one though!! Stanbridge Whites are pure white...

    Magpie Ducks

Magpies lay large green-white eggs. Some birds have a green egg laying gene and some don't. My girl and past girls would lay 5-7 eggs a week and their eggs would be just as big if not bigger than my muscovy duck eggs! And that's pretty big! First big egg I got from my girl I thought was a small...

Silkie with wry neck, again. Now, aspiration pneumonia?

Cawpeaches: I am sorry for your loss, I know it is hard to lose that special chicken. :hugs :( It has happened to a lot of us. I have had chickens and ducks who do the same thing after the loss of a close buddy as your girl did. They go into a little depression sometimes, with company they will...

Call duck thread! For posting pics and discussing!

yes, immature males look similar as females. I am not an expert but I do know a bit on grey colouring and markings sometimes depending on your ducks you can tell by head colour. your females seem to have very dark caps though so this is a bit iffy with yours. do you see that dark cap on their...

Something killed my duck, took the body but left the head!

We have a pair of eagles about 15 min drive away but they don't come here. They stay by the lake. But I have caught the culprit in the act. It was a redtail! I have never had one like this. Idk if it's new around here or one of the ones around here got a mate! But it picked off my best show...

I would be so happy if it is a girl. I will vent sex them all tmr because I never like to do it within the first 24 hours after hatching. But I have 6 total now. What breed and gender is my new baby goose!?

It died before it even internally pipped so ya it was already gone! I would have wrapped paper towel around it to keep it moist and in the shell if it was too early and assist hatched it! But I cracked it open to see what had happened and what kind of goose it was once I found it not moving anymore.
