    Roo or hen?

Hi there, I bought our chicken about 15 weeks ago, this one was already a week or so old when we got it. We bought it at rural king and it was labeled an "ameracauna pullet" but has recently started crowing (ish). It doesn't sound like the noise our rooster was making. kinda like a garbled "errr...

    Hen or Cock, what breed??

Even with the rounded saddle feathers? (I might be a little in denial as this is my daughters favorite chicken and we can't keep roos here)

    Hen or Cock, what breed??

Hi there, My husband picked up an "extra" chick at Rural King back in February (on the 16th) this chick was already twice the size of the other chicks and I think they were already a week old, so it might have been two weeks old at that point. It was in a trough labeled pullets and was in with...

Hen has maching wounds. Is it disease?

Thank you, I think I should. I have never had a "white" chicken. I have always had dark chickens and their ears weren't as noticeable. I do feel like an idiot, but at least I am a relived idiot. LoL.

Hen has maching wounds. Is it disease?

Well she was a lot bigger then the others. I think she was a couple weeks when I got her. I have had her for 8 weeks. I guess I will have to figure out how to tell if she is a he.

Hen has maching wounds. Is it disease?

Ok. Now maybe I am an idiot. I posted both pics before the first one shows how deep it is. Are those her ears? I have never had a chicken with bright blood red ears before.

Hen has maching wounds. Is it disease?

Hi there, My 8 week old hen has matching wounds on her cheeks/neck area. I am going to put neosporin on them but I am wondering if it could be a disease or did she get her head stuck or something. It doesn't seem to bother her, but I am going to quarantine her until she is healed. Also -...

Wry Neck - Confused about treatment

My chicks head/neck is now completely normal, she can move it without (obvious) stress. She seems really happy, but she was as bad as yours to start. Liquid food: What I did: I bought a small bag of medicated chick feed, a bottle of poly vi sol, a bottle of selenium, bottle of non flavored -no...

Wry Neck - Confused about treatment

My chicks head was all twisted too, I would place my hand on her chest and gently straighten out her neck - this wasn't hard for me, but I can't really explain it other then without forcing her neck I could straighten it out and place her beak in the bowl of food and water. Selenium can be found...

Wry Neck - Confused about treatment

Mine was that bad too, almost dead, but from all the insight I got here she is recovering nicely. What I did: I bought a small bag of medicated chick feed, a bottle of poly vi sol, a bottle of selenium, bottle of non flavored -no dyes pediasure and a bottle of vitamin e capsules. I would crush...

Wry Neck - Confused about treatment

I will try the vitamin B in the water, is it a special blend or just 'B'? She had wry neck really bad, but I think she is over the worst of it, but she still tips forward occasionally and seems to stumble when she walks. Most of the severe symptoms seem to be gone. I put them all outside today...

Wry Neck - Confused about treatment

Ok first of all - she was not exhibiting any signs of wry neck - (unless the wobbly feet/balance is also a symptom of wry neck??) So we put her in with the other chickens for a total of 30 seconds, maybe, they were fine at first and tried to peck at her tail. I watched for about 20 seconds and...

Wry Neck - Confused about treatment

I tried putting her back in with the other chickens but they pecked at her pretty badly, and since she is still a bit wobbly I am thinking it best to let her get stronger before putting her back in with them. But no - she is not a silkie, she is a Black Jersey Giant - from what I have read it...

Wry Neck - Confused about treatment

She did have a lot of dizzy spells but she seems to be ok now, she just moves and can't truly control her movement, she doesnt seem to be able to balance on her feet - she still falls over a lot, but the shaking and neck swinging seem to be gone. I am thinking she just got really week and now is...

Wry Neck - Confused about treatment

Not great but better, I think. We thought she had broken a leg or something, but all the bones were fine, so we assumed she was just sore and left her alone. The next day she seemed to be unable to control her neck, almost like Parkinson's or something. She would keep her head down on her chest...

I started giving mine the polyvisol and vitamin e - she doesn't seem to be improving, but everything I have read said to give it a few days.
