    Please give me your opinions

One of my friends is dying from cancer. She has been in and out of the hospital for almost a month, and is paralyzed on one side from a tumor pressing on a part of her brain. Her neighbors have been taking care of her dog at her house, stopping a couple times a day to feed it and let it potty...

    H1N1 vaccine

Has anyone had the vaccine or your children had it? Did it harm you in any way? fever, sickness, etc? I have some severe health problems (DM, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, kidney function issues), and I have the opportunity to have the injected vaccine. I am afraid to do it, but I am...

    chocolate satins

How much do they usually go for? I just bought a group of them for $10 each. These are papered. They are beautiful rabbits, and three does are already expecting. I know they are worth more than the ten dollars I paid for each of them.

    EE question

I have a lot of cochins, silkies, and Araucanas. So they all get mixed up in chicks along with a few turken mixes. Someone told me today that an auracana mix will lay the colored eggs if it has dark feet. True or false? That would give me an idea of which ones to keep or sell.

    brooding hens

I had a broody hen that set for about four weeks. About three weeks into her setting, another hen decided to set with her. There was about 25 eggs from various and sundry hens under them total. Hen1 gave up after a month and left Hen2 with the brood of eggs. A couple of days later two chicks...

    goat selling question

I had a couple of does that I was going to take to the farmer's market. One 3yo nubian was not easy to milk, and the other 4yo overhasli was dried up. I decided to sell her and keep her sister who was still milking. They were both broke to lead, and docile except that the nubian tended to...

    bought more does-- skinny

I bought 2 alpines and a nubian yesterday from the salebarn for $95total. The nubian looks pretty good, a little small with a terrible attitude, but good. She had a kid that they split up and sold separately in a group of kids, so I am milking her out. She has two sets of adult teeth (4teeth)...

    CPV2c

Has anyone been warned about the newer CPV2c stain of parvo? It mutated, and has proven more deadly because the animals haven't developed immunity to the new mutation? The older vaccines do provide a bit of crossover immunity, but no newly developed vaccines just for the mutation have come out...

    cochin question

I just bought a dozen red cochins/frizzled cochin chicks from a lady. I have gotten numeous adult hens from her before with no problem. Her hens are always docile to the point you can walk right up to them, pick them up and pet them. She hand feeds them, so they are all docile and friendly...

    culling chickens

How do you sort your chickens? Cochins/frizzles/silkies/EE are so very addictive. I like them all. They are all unusual and sweet. But I can't keep 100+ of them. I will just have to sort some out to sell at the farmer's market. I have three pens and buildings with chickens. I need to sort...

    broad turkey

How much would you pay for a mature broad turkey tom? I saw one at auction today along with the hen, and just wondered what they were worth? The guy said the hen lays almost daily, but they were unfertilized because he couldn't reproduce. They went for $36. Did I make a mistake in not buying...

    white chickens

About 7wks ago I got 25 assorted brown egg layers. I have 5 white pullets that started out yellow. If they wern't sold as brown egg layers I would say they were simply leghorns. Is there a plain large white hen that lays brown eggs? They are totally white, yellow feet, yellow ears.

    turkins

First off-- If this is the wrong place to post this, Sorry. I wasn't sure which forum to use, but "chicken behaviors" seemed to fit the bill. What do you all think of turkins? Are they all kind of mean? or is it just mine? I have mostly cochins and some silkies, but recently got a turkin. It...

    Dominant or Recessive

Do any of you know if these are dominant or recessive traits in chickens? Frizzle D or R? Silkie furlike feathering D or R? I have one silkie rooster with a bunch of cochins, and was wondering if I could get some with the furry look? Naked neck D or R? I have one turken with some cochins, and...

    Duck eggs

My electricity went out last Wed night around 12:30, and didn't return on until after 8am Thurs. I have over 4dozen duck eggs in the incubator. I know duck eggs are more forgiving than any other bird egg. Should I just pitch them or wait it out? They have two more weeks to go.

    livestock auction etiquette

I need to understand auction taboos. I went to a poultry sale at the salebarn and bought 6 adult Sultan Roos. At first there were many of us bidding. I had already determined I would get one of them even if it went up to $20, so I just left my hand up as it went higher. Finally, the one guy...

    broody banty

Is there anyway to encourage bantys to go broody early? I mean before they do it by themselves? I have 8dozen duck eggs in the incubator, and I am still getting more. I would really appreciate a couple of my broody bantys. I am also getting turkey eggs that I want brooded.

    Pictures

Is there an online place to see pictures of chicks of different types? I just got 200 assorted brown egg-laying pullets. I would like to kind of guess what they are? I can tell which ones are the RIReds.

how many hens to lay 100 dozen a year?

We use at least 2-3 dozen eggs a week. I would like to have at least 100 dozen eggs a year, and would freeze during the laying season to have eggs during the dormant season. How many hens would that be? Could 3 dozen hens do that with some to spare? Or would fewer hens be enough? Thanks
