Ador vs ChickenGuard vs Omlet door

Would love to hear your opinion if you have any of these automatic doors. I’ve narrowed my selection down to these three because they are reliable according to reviews, they can be programmed, and aesthetics. I’ll be installing it into hardware cloth, so I’ll make a frame. Not sure if I can do...

Anyone in SoCal can tend flock post surgery

Hey there. If you’re still looking for help watching your ducks, please lemme know. We have chickens at the moment, but helped with my grandparents’ ducks and geese when we visited them growing up. Anyway, my niece and I may be able to help. She lives in 4S and I in PQ. She has taken care of...

    Speckled Sussex gender

Any crowing yet @NursexNikki? Here is my speckled Sussex...and it’s my one of my favorite breeds for its personality (affectionate, curious) and intelligence. I’m holding out hope that yours is a hen, but a week ago, mine started crowing/stepped up in rank once my Easter egger roo was gone...

Comment by 'petuniaSD' in article 'Bee's key points to successful and safe free ranging.'

Great read with great info on aerial predators. Thank you for clarifying that it isn’t necessarily white feathered chickens that are prime targets! Disproved my theory. I have two great flock protectors (golden retrievers); one in particular who guards against almost all winged creatures...

Anyone painted their hardware cloth black?

Thank you for this info! We have a security screen door and my In laws have the same frame, but their screen is black ...it looks much nicer but/and you can see through it much better. We are making a new run for the coop to accommodate more chickens. Black welded wire it is.👍

Is there a breed that you’ve had that you would absolutely not have again?

Possibly(!) My first flock was from a 2nd grade classroom hatch from a student’s grandma’s farm...all mixed breeds; traits/markings/colorings that came out were a golden comet-ish, a Delaware/Brahma-ish, a SLwyandotte-ish, and an EE. All different levels of standoffish but overall sweet and...

Is there a breed that you’ve had that you would absolutely not have again?

I have a young SS chickie...loads of personality, so friendly. So far my fave breed of 8 in the brooder, but we’ll see how she turns out. :)

Review by 'petuniaSD' in article 'The "Mod" Coop'

I have a similar narrow situation; my first flock was on the other side of the house and I’m going to move or build the structure on the more narrow side now. Love your coop! Thank you for sharing your great plans...very clear! I am encouraged to try to build now thanks to you :) #coopgoals

Need help with siting coop and run at my house

Hi, how many chickens? We are San Diego too :) first started chicken raising in 2015 and now on our second flock. We live on Penasquitos canyon and have to look out for predators (coyotes, bobcats, hawks, raccoons). They’ll scale fences to get to the coop/run and any loss is heartbreaking...
