    Chickens and my Golden Retriever

Graham is good dog - he is a rescue that we got 2 years ago from a rescue group in Dayton, Oh. His only issue is that he has seizures and is now on two meds to help control them. The chickens seem to like him and he takes all their attention without giving them any trouble. I was concerned...

    Chickens and my Golden Retriever

Yesterday I was taking my 3 year old Golden Retriever Graham for a short stroll around my property. When we walked by the coop my chickens followed Graham and continued to follow him until we stopped in the front yard. Graham could not have been less interested in the birds. I am pleasantly...

Moved chicks to coop, any preventative measures?

When I cleaned out the coop I did scrub/spray/scrape it down but did not disinfect it. The next time I clean it what should I use as a disinfectant? I think that I read somewhere here (I have read so much on this forum!) that people use a vinegar spray - if so what concentration? White...

Moved chicks to coop, any preventative measures?

Just moved my 5 week old chicks into their coop. The coop was last occupied a little less than a year ago by the chickens of the previous owners of the house. Still have some cool nights so I have their heat lamp on a timer. Is there anything that I should do to prevent any health issues or...

How to prepare an existing coop for new chickens?

Still working on the pictures. The coop was cleaned of all pine shavings/straw, almost all of the poop has been scraped off, and it has a hanging feeder and water container. Do I need to scrub it down or disinfect it? It has been empty since the end of August or beginning of September.

How to prepare an existing coop for new chickens?

The house we bought in November has an existing coop and we just got 6 RIR's and 5 Barred Rocks. The coop last had chickens in it last August or the beginning of September. It has a wood floor and 8 nesting boxes. I will post some pictures tomorrow along with the dimensions. What do I need...

    Newbie from Ashley, Ohio

Last November my wife, youngest son, and myself ditched the suburbs and moved to the country of northern Delaware County, Ohio. The house we purchased had a very nice chicken coop on the property so we decided to get some chicks to raise for eggs. I bought 6 Barred Rocks and 6 Rhode Island...
