Last November my wife, youngest son, and myself ditched the suburbs and moved to the country of northern Delaware County, Ohio. The house we purchased had a very nice chicken coop on the property so we decided to get some chicks to raise for eggs. I bought 6 Barred Rocks and 6 Rhode Island Reds from Ridgway Hatchery which is about 20 miles from me. All except one seem to be doing well and I have even dealt with 3 cases of pasty butt. Two weeks ago if you had said that I would be running the butts of chicks under warm water and picking off their dried crusty poo, well ...... ! The one who is not well is a cross beak and I predict that it will soon die. I am looking forward to being a member of this forum and have already learned bunches lurking for a few days.
