I have a brahma that is about 8 months old. She is not laying yet. Around Thanksgiving, I noticed that she stopped roosting at night and just stand quietly on one of the corners. I thought she was sick but she seemed to be ok. I posted her issue awhile ago, and the responses I had was because of...
How many chickens do you have? I have 7 that are laying and been using only 2 nesting boxes instead of 4 and it worked. I also collected the eggs very often!! Hope this will work for you too!
On my last post https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/845726/hen-not-roosting-with-others, I decided to stop worry about her! And now, I think she is trying to kill herself!!!!
Yesterday, I found her in the dark outside the coop by herself and it was below freezing! I thought she might get stuck...
So based on what you said, she is getting too fat to fly up the roost!! LOL!!! I guess I need to figure what to do with her then! Maybe put a ladder for her, we'll see if that will help!
We have 8 hens and there are plenty of space for everyone. I noticed one of the hens pecked on her when I put the hen on the roost. I know she is on the lowest pecking order. She is not laying yet and I believe due to stress! She is a brahma and is more than 30 weeks old. They were fine a month...
My girls used to roost all together! Now about a month ago, one of my hens starts to sleep on the ground by herself. I keep an eye on her to make sure she is not sick. She seems to be well!!
I decided to let her do her own business, but the problem that I encountered lately was the freezing...
I have black sexlink, barred rock, buff Orpington, EE, brahma! The EE just starts laying today and she laid on the poop board, so it was frozen!! I have more luck today because I only have 1 frozen egg out of 7! :)
The brahma is not laying yet! She is about 30 weeks now!
It's a very cold day in Anchorage! It was -11F this morning! My coop is insulated but it is still very cold inside the coop, so all my eggs were cracked open and solid frozen!! Arggghhh! At least my chickens are alive and well.
This is my first winter of raising chickens! What do you do to...
Congratulations with your first eggs!! I wish I could give you the answer, but I am a newbie too!! So far, my girls (5 of them are laying) are doing their job by laying in their nest boxes. I have 4 nest boxes and they seem to use all of them! I hope someone will answer to your question! Good luck!
I thought I should update my BOSS sprouting time! I started them on 10/17 and today is 10/27, so it took 10 days for me to sprout BOSS to my satisfaction!! It sure takes longer than barley!!
I only have 8 chickens, so this whole tray will be used for 2 days!
There is no good answer to this question! It all depends on individual. I'm personally raising chickens for eggs, so I do want to have some eggs during the winter if I can. I do love them, but they are not my pets! In a few years if their eggs production is getting lower and lower, then I will...
Does anyone know how long does it take to sprout BOSS?
I started this one on 10/17, so it has been sprouting for 4 days now.
This one was started on 10/15, so it has been 6 days now. I feels they should have sprouted longer than that!
